Kirk, back in the day, I was in Memphis with my three youngest children. I took them home to the States to family in Indiana and after a few days realized I needed them with me because there was just too much commotion going on. We ended up going on a one week 5 State road trip. I came to Europe in 1979 to work as an orchestra musician and have been here ever since. I miss family in the States, sure. But that day in Memphis, after being both to the Martin Luther King Museum AND Graceland, I parked at a hamburger joint to collect my thoughts. This was just after going into a Liquor Store to get some beer. Walking in I realized I was the only white person in there and for CERTAIN there had never been a white man or woman in there. Something powerful was happening... Exiting I went to the car and drove a mile away and parked at this hamburger restaurant ... Probably smoking a cigarette contemplating the day ... I see an old frail, poor, but smiling black man, thin and ragged walking up to me ... I look in his eyes wondering what he wants and he reaches out and hands me a CD, a burnt copy of Kirk Franklin 1NC ... His eyes ... I reach to my wallet thinking I need to give him something and he just smiles and walks away ... My God. I can't tell you more, but God knows how much I am looking forward to the arrival of Long Live Love. I'm getting there Kirk. Love you and thank you as you are a Godsend.
