It’s just a lawn renovation, what could possibly go wrong?

Sometimes, even if you execute every step of the process perfectly you don’t always end up with the desired result. This is one of those times for me. The weather simply won’t cooperate with my lawn renovation plans as I walk through my journey with it this fall.

Same issue here in Southwest Missouri. Really need the rain. Had some areas not fill in as usual and had to go back over with some pre-germinated seed. First freeze is tonight, but should still get some more growth as long as the soil temps remain above 50.

I'm over in Kansas and struggling with the same issues. It seems like our Falls have been hotter and dryer lately.

Also had a less than optimal overseed project here in the Twin Cities, MN. Lawn is 70% PRG, overseeded with Twin City Seed Obsidian PRG blend. Lawn is about 3 inches now, and I’d like to mow. Would you recommend I use my Honda rotary mower, or a manual reel mower I have? The reel mower is much lighter rolling over the seedlings, but won’t mulch the clippings.

Any chance of a video on dormant seeding for those of us who are also facing thinning and bare spots after a lackluster fall overseed? Do you recommend dormant seeding before snow? Can we still apply pre-emergent in spring if we dormant seed? Does mesotrione work in this context? Thanks for the great info!

In N IL typically kbg must go down late August, but with heat and lack of rain waited until late September. Went to Fireball PRG and a little bluenote KBG pregerminated. This was an overseed, semi-reno after a hot, little rain summer. Full reno would have been very difficult

Yeah but what does it look like in February?!

Been there. Done that. First the almost two week 90 degree drought in September in western NY which is unheard of. Then, the week long torrential monsoon after a reseed. Guess God didn’t want a lawn here now

Pretty much same story here. One decent rain in the last few months. Backyard is going to go from summer dormancy to winter dormancy with no recovery. Praying it comes back in spring🤣

I did an over seed over Labor Day, no rain for 2 1/2 weeks after, I ran the sprinklers 4x a day for 15 mins per. Grass came in great. Wondering if that would have made a difference for your germination with keeping it damp daily?

Im in STL, and the lack of rain really suck this year. I have zoysia, so im enjoying thrse last few weeks of green bc it goes dormant. Considering killing it for a cool season grass next year, but itll depend on how it look in spring/eqrly summer

Yea my yard been pretty brown n dried lately. Had a question about my yard, I mowed it toward end of last month with a push mower and all was even. Now from looking at it the grass in the shade seems to be longer then grass in the sunny areas. Any idea what could be causing it?
