In 2014 my husband had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. You'd think in rural Arkansas they'd be very familiar with it but when he hit the ER they called everyone down to look at it and were even taking pictures. He was in the hospital for over a week. Serious stuff. You never hear about long term effects of RMSF like you do Lyme Disease but ever since he's had it his immune system isn't as strong and he battles skin rashes no one can diagnosis. I've always been afraid to use anything w/ deet because I thought it wasn't safe to put on the skin. Thank you for this informative video.

I work in a greenhouse in a tropical region where mosquitoes are active year round. I wear long pants and long sleeves and apply DEET every day. My ignorant boss insists that DEET is a neurotoxin and it frustrates me because he acts pretentiously about it, and tries to convince other people that this is true to persuade them to not use DEET. Thanks for helping spread awareness that it is a safe and effective insect repellent against the deadliest animal in the world, the mosquito!

Thank you for this! One of my fav running trails is in a wooded area alongside a lake. The bugs can be horrible, especially after rain. I always wear repellent but I feel better informed now.

“ if you’ve been spraying yourself with bath and body work products or things like that you might be more tasty” that made me laugh!

Honestly I don’t usually use any repellants, I was always told and taught that deet causes cancer, and I had never thought it was worth the risk. Maybe I should rethink it.

Great information. As a garden worker. I do use lots of sun screen. I spray only my clothes with bug spray. I am trying Vic’s rub around my ankles on my socks as I am in shorts all day to keep the ticks from climbing up on me as I trim shrubs. My nemesis is the horse fly they seem to love me.

great video addition to your channel! yes, you should do more like how to properly remove a tick, treat the skin post bite (tick/mosquito), things to look out for afterward

Thank you so much for this Dr. Dray! I am always so skeeved out when I apply my OFF! to go hiking in the woods. It is great to know that the horrible smelling cloud from the repellant is the product design to keep the bugs off. I live in Connecticut and Lyme Disease is so will feel much safer putting on the spray now.

I just shared this video to my FB page. Right now, along with the normal mosquitoes, my region is inundated with yellow flies, the most hateful fly around, as in, they are reported to be the only biting fly that will bite you indoors. They deliver a very painful bite.

As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Happy Labor Day to you, your mama, and Tybee! 🇺🇸 🎉❤️

Dr. Dray, thank you so much for the excellent information. My granddaughters love the outdoors and live in the country so I really appreciate you sharing all of your knowledge! Thank you, Mary

Yes please do more videos on insecticides. I was curious about the :OFF Clip-On, " It would also be good to learn more about how to determine if a bug bite or other skin issues common with outdoor activities needs actual medical attention. I had a friend years ago say all of the horrible scars on her legs were from something called "impatigo" because she scratched a mosquito bite.

Thanks for this helpful video! Ticks are terrible this time of year in N C. They drop out of the trees and just love the heat of your scalp and hair. It is also really important to protect your pets who spend time outdoors. Flea/tick collars are just not adequate. You are not a Debbie Downer at all! Knowledge is power. Many thanks for all the info you provide. That in invaluable. Hugs!!

Good information, as always! My son contracted Malaria in Punta Cana. Our doctor acted like we were stupid not to know to take the prophalactic meds for it but we didn't know anyone who did. He just happened to be the lucky one. Anyway, a mosquito repellent may have helped! Thanks!!

Great info ! We've had 3 weeks of rain off and on and more to come! Humidity is dreadful and so are the mosquitoes 😳

So glad you spoke about deet. I was always a little nervous using it. Someone told me it was bad for you. Now I know.
Spring has finally arrived and I'm dying to get in my garden. Blackflies are out in droves.

Thanks for the evidence based recommendations! I have been very frustrated by the fear mongering surrounding DEET and all the people wanting to use ineffective alternatives like baby oil. I always appreciate a science minded individual.

Love this!! It’s so gross how ticks and fleas can get on you.. I have never experienced that on myself but my Marley has (mini schnauzer) especially here in AZ - ticks live in the dirt and summer is the most popular time for them! So when we walk Marley and before she comes back into the home - we always check her fur for ticks or fleas and will most likely always find something - hate that process of her being outside and close to the ground 🙄🙄 but what are ya gonna do about natural life.. oh well, loved today’s video! It was different and refreshing and again thank you for your knowledge! P.S. I love OFF Spray even the smell 🤪🤪

I bought tick gators (white mesh) from Gardeners Supply and supposedly when I'm out gardening in CT, it's hard for the ticks to get through plus they don't like the light background.

Starting Wednesday we will be in the 100’s. I need to move to Alaska for the summer. I hate this Texas heat. Xoxo 😘
