I think Election Commission of India should make an arrangement of voting in consultes, Embassies and High Commissions like the France do to its citizens in Pondicherry

Title should have been - NRIs need to be in India to cast their vote 🤦‍♂️

What's the point of this exercise, when I am required to be physically present in India on election day in my constituency.

NRIs should be able to vote from the resident country may be by visiting embassy or online because a large population works abroad and invest in India

Lazy to go to restaurant?
Order food online. But no home delivery, just go and pick it up from the restaurant. 😂

If you have to cast vote by being physically present then I don't get the difference? Since they are also citizen of India and will be physically present at their constituency then it is just like any other Indian citizen casting their vote, right?

this is a misleading news clip. One line says people who do not live in their native country can cast their vote and the next line says you have to be physically present. Please don't fool the viewers. I am sure there is a better title for the video. Respect the journalism standard!!!

Request to make arrangements by next elections to get NRI 's to do online voting from the respective countries where they stay. Who would be stupid enough to travel to and fro by costly plane to vote in this world of internet?

The problem is also address proof for many of us settled abroad. If you are NRI, not all have holiday homes as address proof and people who have lost their parents and hence not have family property are always in a fix to get the address proof. It’s logical to remove that address proof requirement for voting. Hope this is done soon. Jai Hind

Height of comedy. If I can present why I am called separately as NRI. Govt should bring a postal ballot kinds of methods to make this more seamless. Not every NRI has flexible enough to travel just for voting. Govt should seriously think about it now as the diaspora is too high than ever before across the globe.

First clarify the title. This is for NRI's who happened to be in India during the time of election. This would be fairly very small percentage. I would estimate that it caters to may be 5% of NRI's.
True solution is for NRI's to be able to vote wherever they are. I followed the direct news from supreme court and govt websites. That is in last stage of implementation but unfortunately all party consensus could not be reached on how to implement it. Congress, Communist and others were the main roadblocks to implement digital voting at embassy. Sending voting machines to all embassies are not logistically possible. Because imagine the nri could be of any constituency of the 540 odd seats.

My best solution would be:
- Digital voting with Aadhar biometric, passport, local ID validated at the nearest embassy.

In 2020, the ECI wrote to the Law Ministry that it was “technically and administratively ready” to facilitate ETPBS for NRIs in the 2021 Assembly elections in five States but the External Affairs Ministry flagged “huge logistical challenges” relating to identity verification of voters, absence of polling agents, the burden on embassy staff etc

So for an NRI to cast their vote, they should buy a flight ticket, travel hours if not days to cast the vote. Simply put indian living abroad cannot vote. Why is no one talking about this?? Indians are biggest diaspora, how is this democratic??
