Christian here, and aspiring accountant (maybe). I absolutely love the content and the fact that you both show me a good idea of what the life is like, but you also talk about your faith and what you're reading in the Bible! Awesome to see, and you've gained a new subscriber!

As a senior professional in big four, this is so good to see! Looking at the comments, there are so many of you interested in accounting…Come onboard!! Also seeing you hold fast to your faith is just encouraging. May God strengthen you and bless you with knowledge, wisdom and understanding to do the work you have been given.

I'm so surprised how well you manage your time during peak season. Compared to myself, I would prefer to sleep if I had more time during the year-end period.

You're so inspiring. Love it!

The video starts at 8:38 for those of you wondering why 80% of the video was filler content

Im glad I avoided busy season by going into state and local government audit instead of industry. GASB is a bit tough with all the different funds and having different materiality thresholds for each fund but we only work like 40-50 hours per week all year instead of the long hours others have to put in.

My busy season is like:
8:30am getup
9:30am work
11pm finish work
11:30pm arrive home
1am sleep and repeat

Now I'm jealous of your work hours.

I am studying to become an accountant. I think I really like the auditing part of it, although I have not worked in an internship yet. I am hopeful next summer I will be interning in a company nearby. thanks for explaining the testing .

Excellent video, Kat!! I used to work in public accounting, so it's interesting to see what other people's busy seasons are like. I don't miss the hours, but I do miss fun engagement teams and connecting with clients. If you're in your 1st year as an auditor, then I'm sure you will have lots of fun with your SURL testing and confirmation (among other things, of course). Good luck to you!!

I really enjoyed this video! I am about to finish my 2nd internship with my firm (1 audit, 1 tax) and start full-time after graduating this spring. What's some advice you would give to a first year staff accountant?

my husband works KPMG and works 15 to 18 hrs for 7 days during the busy season losing his mental/physical health. they don't pay overtime also, I do math so his hours come to 8 dollars per hour as working 120 hours for a WEEK. These companies use you while they let you use their company name for your resume. there is no life balance and no money. It is not worth it to lose your life over a career. Another girl from his company had a stroke due to stress and was abandoned by finance she was working a lot. They won't promote you and will be the number one to these companies. Starting a salary of 80-90k/yr after college is a bad job.

Do you ever need to use the Accounting Standards Codification or something similar to make complicated entries? If yes, do you have to use the code when explaining the entries to the auditors? Thanks!
