Update: The photo supposedly depicting Amelia Earhart with Japanese fishermen was taken at least 2 years before her disappearance. Thanks to Kota Yamano, he identified the picture from a book that was published in 1935 which was two years before Amelia Earhart took her last flight. There is some debate whether it is even her in the picture. Regardless, this does not prove the theory that Amelia was captured in Japan.

The picture, of Amelia sitting on the dock, came from a Japanese travel guide for the Marshal islands, a copy of which can be found in the Japanese National Archives. The book was published in 1935; two years before her historic flight.

The trailing antenna was foolishly removed in Miami. It could not have been knocked off in Lae. Paul Mantz and the radio man warned her about it but she never listened to other peoples advice. Harry Manning saved his own life after he refused to fly with her any more after the Ford Island crash.

"Prove" is kind of a strong word.

It's very likely that she ended up on the island of Nikumaroro. They've found pieces and fragments of 1930's american make up and cosmetic products like freckle fading ointment (she had freckles) and rogue, hand lotion, a mirror, glass bottle that had been used to boil water, traces of camp fires and bone fragments etc. Since it's a deserted island and no such products should be there it's pretty likely that she ended up there. Unless visiting army men have been using a lot of make up and use broken glass bottles to boil water or cook food for some reason

its sad that frederick noonan is hardly mentioned in earharts quest. he was a valuable aviator on her flights. almost cast aside and forgotten

As an experienced aircraft engineer, how would that patch detach itself from the fuselage. Those rivets will fail in shear and they don’t look by viewing the river holes that there has been a failure. They appear to have been de-riveted to remove the patch, which would require drilling off the heads of the rivets.

The Amelia Earhart picture has been proven false. It has been found in a file from 1935, two years before she disappeared. In other words, fake news.

See Vincent Loomis' book "Amelia..the final chapter" i believe that is the title. One picture in his book, has him standing next to the prop, and engine that came off when they ditched the plane at one of the atols. He interviewed the queen who was there. He interviewed the local man who was the corpsman who took care of Noonan's wounds. There were 2 marines who discovered her place of detention, and her diary. There had been video interviews before on Youtube. Loomis' book is a good investigation by a very small former Navy Air Commander.

I am repeating myself, but when Earhart radioed the Itasca, coastguard vessel, ‘she said we are over you, but can’t see you, low on fuel. What is low on fuel, 20 gallons. Nikimimoro was 350 miles from Howland. I don’t know the fuel burn of the Electra, but if low on fuel they couldn’t have made the distance. There is too much evidence they ended up on Saipan, via Milli atoll and Julatt island. Just my theory.

An NBC report was made on our local channel a few nights ago with even more descriptive elements and commentary from a photo specialist that it is highly likely the photo on the pier is indeed of Earhart and Noonan. It seems to make the most sense now as this comes forth. The damaged antenna story here further fills out why the flight got into such trouble.

Amelia was kinda cute in that pilot uniform. Brave woman, much respect on what she set out to achieve. Forever remember r.i.p Amelia Earhart.

As I understood, a piece of the Lockheed Electra, specifically an aftermarket panel used to effect a repair by Amelia herself, was found off the Marshall Islands. (Miami Patch mentioned here) The rivets, coloration and numbers were matched positively against records and a photo of the repaired part installed on her plane the day she flew out. That directly contradicts that first photo where the plane is alleged to be on a barge near that Dock.

There have been several eye witnesses to seeing AE and Fred Noonan on Saipan, Mili Atoll and Jaluit Island. Marines and native inhabitants. Personal items were also found such as her brief case. Also her Electra was seen in a guarded hangar and flying above Saipan.

The photos PROVE nothing. They do suggest some possibilities however. The loss of the radio mast and its trailing-wire antenna would make it unlikely for Earhart to be heard on the 500kHz international distress frequency. The Jaluit photo is intriguing in that it shows not just one but TWO people who strongly resemble the person(s) in question. The scene appears not to be one of captivity: no soldiers, no Japanese flags or rising sun symbols, everybody on the dock looking relaxed and smiling. I also wonder about the ability of the survey ship Koshu Maru to hoist a 5-ton airplane onto a barge, among other improbabilities. If Earhart's plane had been lost at sea in the vicinity of Howland Island, as the US navy's search concluded, it would be very difficult to find, since the ocean floor there is 16, 000 to 18, 000 feet down, half again deeper than the Titanic .

With so many people saying she was finally imprisoned on Saipan and American soldiers recovering her airplane, it owuld only be to easy to "plant evidence supporting whatever theory we are supposed to believe instead of what most likely happened, which is she was spying for the US military and was shot down or forced down in japanese controlled airspace and taken prisoner.
