This time we test the 1.8mm elastics and also look at how the elastics change within a manufacturers range.

Try alternating which you stretch first, less stretch when already under load or try a stretch when attached to a set of scales to see the pounds of stretch over a set distance you may be surprised. Great videos Thanks

I think the main takeaways are that the Quality Control on the drennan's are terrrible, that some of their 1.8mm elastic is actually 1.94mm and evidently stronger than their 2mm elastic. Also, Preston elastic's seem to be the most "true to spec" out of the bunch, so if you want some added punch from your "spec", go Matrix, if you want best control and predictability, go Preston.

I did the same experiment yesterday with the green slik and hydro. Interestingly the slik stretched ever so slightly further at both 10 and 20cm stretch, but only by about 10mm-20mm respectively. This was on both 5cm and 10cm length grabs. They were practically the same, however when stretched further the matrix hybrid strengthened and began clawing back - to the point both were indistinguishable. Basically they are pretty much the same. Purple hydro (14-18) green slik 16-18.

Interesting results I have used the blue and it was way sorter and stretched way more than I expected will be getting my vernier out and checking all my elastic stuff from now on.

Brilliant video. I do find for same stated diameter matrix is stronger than all other hybrids I’ve used. The Drennan results were concerning. I’ve only used Drennan 2mm (blue) so far and liked it, but would want different grades to be different strengths!! You’re leading me to staying with MAP my favourite (which is slightly softer than duraslip but no science to prove it). Keep up the very good work.

I would be interested to see a comparison between the big manufacturers and the independent sellers I've used matrix before changing to Ian's floats stuff and can't see much of a difference

Another thought provoking vid 🥴
Thx John 👍
Gonna stick with my zip ellacy 😝

Lesson!! Stick with Duraslip as it ticks all the boxes and performs very well. Cheers

I believe elasticity is directly proportional to cross sectional area - so you should tabulate your results accordingly (area = pie x radius squared). If this is right then you can eliminate variance in diameter & area as you can then compare elasticity per unit x-sectional area. To get an accurate measure clip the elastic in bulldog clips, the ones with blade edges rather than rolled over & use a engineer's rule with 1/2mm markings.
Deffo need to look at resistance over increasing stretch, the apparent 'power up' using scales.

There just doesn't seem to be any industry standard anymore look at hooks a 16s in some makes is like a 12s then others like a 20s you just carnt relay on nothing anymore you just have to find what suits your fishing and stick with it.
