Review: Rekordbox DJ

Pioneer DJ shook up the industry last October when it released its standalone performance software, Rekordbox DJ. The company has since added DVS functionality, more hardware support, and most recently, video support. But do all the bells and whistles make Rekordbox DJ a worthy competitor to Serato DJ and Traktor Pro?

I have to say that pioneer has made big strides with solid hardware love my Ddj SZ. I believe in Serato for innovation that led us to where we are today, but Serato has to get serious and fast. A new refreshed and stable user software. Not to mention new hardware. Now that Rane has been sold let's see where this goes!

Fascinating indeed. I'll have to give this a go, but I have to admit that unless there are significant reliability improvements that I am over using DVS outside of my home. Way too many on-stage issues when switching between DJs. Serato and USB sticks with a control tone, or skipping the laptop altogether are increasingly appealing regardless of how promising RDJ is. That RBX mothership beast looks appealing though...

Also during the video you had a pair of 2000 CDJ'S and the 2000 DJM mixer in white, is that just a skin or a metal plate replacement?

Great neutral review m8 as far as im concerned as a DVS DJ using both traktor s8 and serato via akai AMX and loving both for one reason or another the only thing going for Rekordbox dj is the mini wave form thingie showing the track before loading. But for a new package so far so good. Loving the T shirt BTW ;-0

Can anyone confirm if it has a video recording feature? Very cool but video recording is pretty much what all VJ's like to see. Great review👍🏻 it def works better than SV.

Just bought the DDJ-RX and made the switch to Rekordbox DJ from Traktor Pro 2 with my S4 MK2 controller and couldn't be happier. Traktor was giving me MAJOR problems with audio drops on a regular---three during my last big job just two weeks ago...total embarrassment even though the crowd thought I was just doing some horrible mixing or something. NI's tech support blamed it on the OS, El Capitan, and said the new OS would do the trick, but I was sick of issue after issue with Traktor and their tech support that takes weeks to respond. I've been using Traktor since the very beginning too...loyal as hell when everyone else I knew was using Serato...but enough was enough. Did a job last night with the RX and it worked great...clean audio and responsive controls. I just have to get out of the mindset of a Traktor user now and start getting comfortable with the Pioneer controls and how to maneuver through Rekordbox easily. One thing unrelated to Rekordbox DJ though--the damn RX's track scroll knob up top is just above the master volume control knob, so I ended up blasting everyone's eardrums out for a split second when I thought I was scrolling through a playlist! lol Why not put that damn knob dead center for easy access???!!!

Does anyone had a DJ gig using Rekordbox? Can you play music for 2-3 hours straight without having any issues?

This is an excellent video and that turntable is awesome! I just made the switch from Traktor hardware (S2) and software to a new Pioneer DDJ-SX2 and Serato. I've been using Traktor for years so the transition to Serato, has not been as easy as I thought it would. For example, the way Serato handles saving loops is just crazy too me. How come it can't be as simple as Traktor? I've been on YouTube all day today, trying to learn how to use Serato. I'm getting there but.... then I saw this video... and now I'm curious.

I'm going to try Rekordbox (assuming it will work with my DDJ-SX2) and see if some of the things I don't like in Serato, is not a problem with Rekordbox.
