The CMS Patient Access and Interoperability Proposed Rule, published on March 4, 2019 proposes that state Medicaid Agencies and Medicaid Managed Care organizations share data using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in order to comply with the proposed federal interoperability requirements. In response and as a part of the February HL7® ballot, the CARIN Blue Button® data model and draft implementation guide was released to assist health plans to be in compliance with the CMS proposed rule. The CARIN Alliance has also developed a consumer-facing real-time pharmacy benefit check API that allows for consumers to access their formulary and benefit information, out of pocket cost information, therapeutic alternatives, and cash price. This session demonstrates the progress made on both FHIR IGs including lessons learned, best practices, and offers time for audience questions.
