Roger Scruton's Best Speeches: The corruption of Academia

After learning in July 2019 that he had cancer, Scruton underwent chemotherapy. He died on 12 January 2020 at the age of 75. I thought I will bring back one of his best speeches in memory of him as an outstanding conservative philosopher.

Sir Roger Vernon Scruton is an English philosopher and writer who specialises in aesthetics and political philosophy, particularly in the furtherance of traditionalist conservative views.
In recent years he taught courses in Buckingham University, Oxford University and University of St. Andrews.

In this clip he talks about fake subjects like women studies that invaded academia with their postmodernist views. Complete videos edited with permission:

R.I.P., Sir Roger Scruton. Earth has lost a brilliant mind, but heaven has gained an angel. Thank you, Philosophy Insights, for posting these.

We have lost a deeply humane man with a brilliant, enquiring, bright mind in an age when much of the world is tumbling into ever darker absolutist, debate-banning, howling-mad fanaticisms.

Thank you Sir Roger. You have left so much that is good in the world.

How utterly, utterly unfair. We needed you: a brilliant, beautiful, shining light in the darkness. Irreplaceable.

Rest in peace man. 💕
Your words will live on not just in videos, books, etc; But hopefully in the brains of millions around the world for centuries.

R.I.P. Roger. I wish I could have met him. I don't think I've ever felt this sad about a total stranger dying before.

Where all of our identity politics and feminist theory-driven sexist PC culture has come from. Our HR departments are full of the people who took these 'courses'

"We in Britain are entering a dangerous social condition in which the direct expression of opinions that conflict or merely seem to conflict with a narrow set of orthodoxies is instantly punished by a band of self-appointed vigilantes".
Roger Scruton. RIP

On modern Academia: "Conformity to an orthodoxy takes precedence over individual method." Absolutely perfect.

Oh noooo deeply saddened
We really need minds like Rogers in this messed up world .
They tried to ruin his legacy but failed miserably

I grew up as a Scottish traveller. My mother had no education. I had an absent father, and lived in abject poverty.

Two minds helped my intellectual mind grow, and they were C.S. Lewis, and his huge bulk of essays, and of course Sir Roger. His grace and willingness for charitable conversation was so moving to someone who grew up in a culture, where violence is a value.

I am going to miss this man so much. He was truly like an intellectual father-like figure I never had.

God bless you in His marbellous light Sir RS. 😭

Wow, I never thought I'd be so angry about his passing. It's like losing an ally in an intellectual war. RIP.

Rest In Peace Roger Scruton. This world is a poorer place without him. May we all continue to seek truth and beauty.

I will miss his form of intelligence, Scruton had an insightful way of analyzing a problem, and in a brilliant way shed some light where it was dark.
