When it comes to race recaps, previews, and analysis, the gold medal goes to Lanterne Rouge!

Good shout for the Afghan rider! Taking part is just as important as winning, and she's been through a lot to even ride a bike.

AVV did not have an Olympicmedal prior to Tokyo, so happy she got the Gold after the crash in Rio. I really loved the Olympics games parcours this year- made for an interesting watch in both races

So glad for van Vleuten winning this - she deserves a gold for her stellar career, and she earned it!

Beautiful victory by AVV who once again shows she is SO GOOD at prepping and performing at the races she targets. Worth it to be up for :). She was announced to do Klasikoa this weekend on the movistar socials. Looking forward to seeing her on her double medal high. Think AVDB just got too tired in the Giro Donne. Also really impressed by Reusser and Grace Brown obviously :)
Thanks for the continued coverage lads

Chloe Dygert was really, really hurting after the finish. The fact that she is even riding yet is incredible

Thrilling surprises is so much of what's to love about the Olympics!
Regarding Dygert from the 🇺🇲 view: I think at least half of her challenge is psych. She's always avoided the Euro scene, which was excused when she was so young, but she's been so isolated in a small bubble with no road racing for so long (it's just dead in the U.S. now). I can attest to the shock and stress of coming out of pandemic isolation and facing crowds and travel. Hers is not the personality to quickly adapt to environments that the likes of the Giro Donna racers have, for instance. The Olympics were her first real races back, and all the stresses of world re-entry were too much to overcome. If this is what she wanted, then so be it. I have no criticism for her performance and hope she improves with each day.

Why you wouldn't expect Annemiek to win the olympic tt? She was the 2017 and 2018 World itt champion, she win 2019 World Road Champion by doing a 100K+breakaway which is basically a itt vs peloton, she was also Dutch national time trial champion for the fourth time by 2019!

Skipping the Giro Donne seems to have really worked for Van Vleuten. I felt like this Olympics was a bit like Yorkshire 2019 Worlds for her mentally. She had disappointment about how things went in the Time Trial there and poured all her might into the Road Race and channelled her frustrations into that ride. I feel she today she took her RR feelings and channelled them into the TT. She just looked on a mission. Van der Breggen who did the Giro maybe just didn't have as much in her legs relative to the fresher AvV. Was really happy for Marlen Reusser getting a medal. The only race I can remember her winning outside of national champs was the European Games TT in 2019.

Not sure how wise it was for Dygert to do the RR given it seemed to take a lot out of her given how she was dropped at times going to be interesting to see how she does on the track. She looked to be cramping in her left leg perhaps and in quite a bit of pain at the finish, . In some still images I've seen recently her left leg doesn't quite look like its gotten back to its former size yet and still looks smaller than her right.

They have communication with the car behind in the olympic TT.

Go amber! Thank you for calling her out we rarely hear about her. She did great! Thanks for the more in depth commentary and thoughts covering everyone, including the refugee member Masumou. Dygert will be back. She needs more time.

On the US broadcast they said that after the road race Dygert had texted her father something that implied concern/disappointment in her injured leg, so she's apparently not all the way back yet. She also seemed to have issues with the radio, although I don't think that played a role. But I'm not sure anybody was touching AVV today, what a dominant performance.

These big injuries take a long time to recover from. Dygert will be better in the future. You guys are the best! Keep it up!

A good race. Some redemption for AVV after the big crash in Rio, gold at last

It was Anastasia Chursina (I'll fess up, I remember her well but I'd to look her name up) who struggled on descents in the breakaway at Burgos (with Heidi Franz, who was a better descender), not Mavia Garcia, even though Chursina still dropped Franz on a climb and went on to win the stage in fine style. At least, if that's the stage your were thinking about. But yeah, Mavi's not a proficient or confident descender. She's not unlike Anna Kiesenhofer, actually, if only in the sense that she doesn't like riding in the peloton - she was a duathlete until she was 31, so she only ever rode alone in races, of course, and apparently part of the reason she tends to break away alone - as she did to such great effect at Strade Bianche last year - is that she prefers it to (and feels safer than!) being in the peloton!

Dygert always has bad luck with severe injuries 2014 ACl injury, 2018 crashed with head injury, 2019 World Camp, 2020 an other severe injury

Neben beat Dygert... I give up. I don't know what's going on in women's cycling.

Shame for Dygert. I was really hoping she would at least podium. She was so dominant before. We really do not know the extent of her injury, her quadriceps muscle was at least partially severed. I hope she can recover fully!
