Keyless Car Theft - How does it work?

I wish key fobs have a mechanical switch to switch off the transmitter of the fob and it also helps sve battery of the fob.

On Mercedes - press lock symbol twice to stop signal emission. Press unlock restores keyless entry next time you go to car.

There are ways to "turn off" your key, IOW, to stop it transmitting - So these scum can't "intercept" the signal & steal your car! In my car - Lexus - Push & hold the LOCK button and still holding, push the UNLOCK button Twice. The key will flash 4 times - IE flash flash flash flash! (Known as 4 bells) the key is now dead. Try it. Go to your car (key in pocket as normal) and try to enter. The car should stay locked. To reset to normal - press any button. Other makes may vary. You're Welcome.

But how do they start the car again if they turn it off

IMO - Consider taking the battery out and use the included notched key to lock and unlock the door. When you enter your car, place the fob right near the button (no battery required) and start the car. Or contact your dealer to replace the keyless system with keyed only?

For my Canadian Hyundai Sonata PHEV 2016, if you want to disable the Car Key Fob, Hold the Key Fob Lock Button 4 seconds. After the 4 seconds, Keep Holding the Car Key Fob Lock but also press the Car Key Fob Unlock Button for 2 seconds. This will stop the continuous RFID signal from Key Fob. If you try to open the car door by pressing the button on the car handle, it will not open (unless you have another set of the Car Key Fob still emitting with you). Another benefit to disable the Car Key FOB, the battery last longer. If you want back the continuous RFID signal, just press the Key Fob Unlock Button. This will keep your car to be stolen by thieves with relay attack where ever you are. Make sure to do this for all the other Car Key Fob of the same car (especially when you are at home) unless it will allow thieves to relay attack because they will catch the rfid signal of the others Car Key Fob.
