One of the US Navy's most potent submarines - USS Connecticut has recently collided with an unknown object.

As per some reports, the collision may have happened less than 43 nautical miles from the Paracels (in South China Sea)
The submarine will need repair.

Jay Stefany, acting assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition, told Congress that unplanned repairs to the damaged attack submarine could disrupt the backlog of planned ship maintenance in the public naval yards,

In this video Defense Updates analyzes what has damaged USS Connecticut ?

Best submarine in the world. The next gen attack submarine will literally be a modified seawolf class since it was so far ahead of it's time.
"Specifically, the Navy indicates that the next-generation attack submarine should be faster, stealthier, and able to carry more torpedoes than the Virginia class—similar to the Seawolf class submarine, ” the CBO report states."
"With this new mission – one less focused on the ability to launch weapons against ground targets – the CBO now assumes the SSN(X) will be similar in size to the Seawolf-class, which displaces about 9, 100 tons. Using this size, the CBO estimates building the new Seawolf-class type of submarine will cost about $5.5 billion per sub. In contrast, the Navy’s shipbuilding plan estimates SSN(X) production will run about $3.1 billion per sub."

Most likely a submerged cargo container.
The Radar dome is not made to withstand any impacts.

Well seeing as a Chinese Sub had to make an emergency surface and limp home recently, I'd say that's a pretty big clue. Maybe not a smoking gun, but I'd guess Connecticut was trailing and got a little too close. Maybe a 'Crazy Chop Suey'.

Interesting and worthwhile video. Surprising that this collision occurred with all the sophisticated equipment abroad to prevent such an occurrence.

You said it is not serious...and yet three(3) of the top officers had been sacked. I assume the Captain must be one of them. I also read somewhere that the USS Connecticut will probably be scrapped. It is too expensive to repair. The latest info I read is that US planes have been spotted flying around the area where the collision occurred to check for possible radiation leak.
My theory is that the Seawolf sub was travelling between the Paracel and Hainan Islands on a spying mission. As we all know, the Chinese has an underground submarine base in Hainan Island and therefore one would expect the region to be heavily fortified with undersea sonars, jamming devices and submarine traps. The Seawolf sub was likely jammed and therefore it could not detect an object in front of it which could be a submarine trap? Otherwise, how can one explain such an advance submarine, the best in the world; travelling blind?

Anyone else here believe that maybe it was caused by the Chinese mining of the waters around those islands ?

Title of an article from RT:

"Russian Navy UFO records say aliens love oceans."

"The Russian navy has declassified its records of encounters with unidentified objects technologically surpassing anything humanity ever built, reports Svobodnaya Pressa news website."

--RT, 21 Jul, 2009.

Not saying its aliens but...

My guess is that it was tailing another sub (Chinese or North Korean) too close the other sub when it made an unexpected baffles clearing maneuverer and the CT. ran into the ass end the other sub.

It ran into a Chinese sub and it's sunk with all hands on board

Hmmm. Something doesn’t add up here. The sub in question had to sail back to the continental US for repairs as Guam’s repair facilities for subs no longer exists.

Moral of story, the sonar is unable to spot man made stationary objects.

I minute of silence to those who clicked and view until the end.

You summarised what was already being repeatedly reported elsewhere. Even the picture resolution was bad (or was it purposely blurred?) Tell us something we don't know!

Your last line caught my attention. "But the fact remains that US Navy will need to get to the bottom of this." Actually, they went too deep at the bottom of the ocean that is why maybe the Sonar Dome was damaged. (pun intended)

A " pint size object " could be a porpoise.

Based on the physical damage of the sub and using the state of the art technological analysis, it was found out that it collided with Moby Dick

Why is the USA so tight lipped about the incident? What are they hiding?
