In a world that makes you constantly wear costumes to pass as straight and cis day in and day out already, Halloween becomes just a celebration of your day to day reality.

My 24 year old daughter is gay. I am so blessed to have her and my daughter in law in my life. Her being gay is just not an issue at our home. But this video made me understand how hard it is for her to be around some of my older relatives. Hopefully she doesn't have to flee the US after this next election. I'm so scared right now. Sending everyone lots of love from Pennsylvania!

Former fundamentalist evangelical Christian here. I am currently wondering how much of the "Halloween is evil" beliefs are really about the ghost, goblins, witches, and that sort of thing and how much of it is because of the connections that are discussed so well in this video...

I do want to say a quick thank you to Jessica if she reads this. I've never been a loud or raging anti-LGBTQ person who actively voted against rights, but my upbringing left me with some biasis. Your channel has helped truly normalize a lot more LGBTQ+ things and has helped me be an better ally to my sister who is in a relationship with a woman, both of whom are afraid to tell their wider families that they are more than "good friends".

As a nonbinary person, Halloween meant so much to me as a kid and still does. The best thing is dressing as what i feel like without judgment. I got to dress up as myself.

Whoa. As someone who almost always wears a mask in public and has an invisible disability, the final chapter is terrifying. How are some people more scared of being uncomfortable than of accidentally killing someone by sneezing on them? (And yes, I get the deafness issue and working with someone DHH is one reason I will take off my mask in public)

As a biromantic asexual women, Halloween is my favorite holiday. Even as a younger child and teen I loved Halloween as it was a time for me to dress up and just be myself and not worry about receiving backlash that my sexuality is a "mental illness" that needs to be corrected via pills, hormones, or humiliating hypnosis therapy. As humans I think we are fascinated by the unknown and the macabre at times. When I used to live and work in Scotland, we also had a gigantic Samhain festival to celebrate the change of the seasons- it was not only a time to celebrate the coming of the winter, but a time for people to celebrate diverse identities. There was a lot of freedom to play with gender identity as sexual identity as participants in the Samhain festival would take on the role of nature spirits and Celtic gods and goddesses. PS- The asexuals and agenders totally claim Jo March.

I love Halloween, but once I came out as trans and started socially transitioning I stopped participating in the holiday as much. I didn't think much of it until recently. I realized I loved Halloween so much as a kid because it was the one day a year I could actually dress how I wanted. My favorite costume was my grim reaper costume, complete with skull mask. People assumed I was a boy when I i wore it, which brought up a lot of confusing feelings. Now that people recognize my gender, I don't feel the need to dress up anymore

As a Poly, Pan woman.. The comment about Christmas strikes at the heart. I can't bring my Girlfriend or Boyfriend to family events. I love them both dearly. However, my mil is very close minded

Disneys first non binary character is actually Raine Whispers from The Owl House.

Growing up christian I was not aloud to do anything halloween because it was considered "evil". As an adult I threw a halloween event for the first time in 2022 when I was 21. It was so freeing my girlfriend and I dressed as aziphale and crowly. My friends (very queer) came over and celebrated. Its been one of my favourite holidays since. Definitely helped me distance my self from my religeous upbringing and heal my inner child ❤️

Dressing up as either Jareth from Labyrinth or a pirate, haven't decided yet. My whole family group is at-risk. Both of my partners (I'm polyam) are diabetic, one is prone to bronchitis and the other has severe enough allergies to have them treated like COPD. I had cancer treatment 5 years ago (I'm fine!) but that leaves me at-risk probably for the rest of my life. Mask bans are fricken absurd.

Tiny note as an Irish person who knows that our language is very different and difficult to understand, Samhain is pronounced like sow-win.

Irish person here, can’t help but say that Jessica is closer than most to pronouncing Samhain correctly, it’s pronounced “Sow-in”.
I have an inappropriate reaction to it being mispronounced because I swear I will lose my mind if I hear “Sam-hayn” ever again.
But Jessica was correct in guessing that the ‘mh’ would be pronounced as a v because it usually is.

Basically, in the US, anti-maskers see wearing one as a freedom violation and they think anyone who would actually need one for a real medical reason should simply never go out so that they don't have to do anything they don't like or have to see disabled people.
