Great review. I completely agree with your assessment of the Trek Domane. I own an SL6 and an SLR 9. I use the SL6 for road and gravel (the frame issue as you mentioned) and the SLR 9 for road. I just love this frame (I own the 2022 model). Like you because this frame offers up such great comfort, I find that over distance, I am as fast on these two bikes as I am my Trek Madone SLR 7. I see lots of riders who want a lighter bike or a snappier bike, but I find this can be addressed through better fitness and weight loss, much easier than through trying to shave off maybe a pound from the actual bike. IMO if you are looking for a road/light gravel bike, the Domane is one to consider.

Cool vid bro! Comfy and fast enough, I used to own a trek Madone and I enjoyed riding that bike for about 10 years. I then bought a Cervelo R3 and it was lighter and soo much faster fun times. I’ve been riding since I was 10 years old and still find soo much fun!!

Going to pull the trigger on a Domane soon. Great to seeing you use it with gravel too. I have a mountain bike and did want a gravel bike as well so love the idea of two in one. I know it’s not a technical gravel bike but is good for some light gravel we have here in Florida

As a side note, I did put racers tape on my down tube and back of seat tube to prevent gravel chips . You might consider that

I rode this exact bike for a week and returned it, just felt way to sluggish. Picked up a Canyon Endurace and am in love with it - much more responsive and snappy feeling while still just slack enough to make it excellent for long rides and light gravel.

ive bought the domane al3 to commute on and i love it, all my bikes are giant but the trek with 32c tyres and the riding position is perfect for me, its the only bike ive rode all summer if you can call it a summer :)

Wogwon...great review! Going to watch the others now and dream about getting my own Domane. Currently on a Checkpoint and want something a little more 'roady'

I'm EXACTLY the same mate
I love my 5.9, and I've just set it up for gravel with 35cs to give it a try
Only thing I don't like is the Bontrager underframe rear brake thingy
Can't wait to see how it will perform on gravel but for me it's the most comfortable road bike I've ever been on
Thanks for this review

I don't ride gravel, but it's a nice bike for sure, I was going to build a Domane SLR, but opted instead for a Madone SLR instead.

I have heard that it´s actually a great light gravel bike, I would like to know how it is as a road bike. From my own experience of this SLR model it rides really beautifully on flats and downhill but I don´t think it has the same snappiness going up as racing models. If you climb in a steady pace seating it is all ok but trying to accelerate from that state doesn´t do much. So not bad uphill but not among the best. Do you have the same experience? Thanks!

Gorgeous bike! Love the colour. Don't fkn dare ruin that frame with gravel chips man!!! 🙈🙈🙈🤯🤯🤯
I was only able to get the SL5 with my C2W scheme budget but the Grey and Red (Mercury) colour is amazing! Looking forward to speccing it up with Some di2 and carbon wheels v soon. Turn that SL5 into an SL7

Addictive as hell bikes and I hear you on the comfort👌

Hi Ben, great rider experience centred review. Too much bike talk is about specs, latest trends, etc. But not here.

At 62 I seek comfort first but not old enough to give up on performance. I am torn between the new Canyon Endurace CF SLX and the Domane which is now coming down in price. I’ll see how the Canyon goes when it’s delivered, but I just might order one of these Treks to see which is best.

Anyway, you mentioned it was a 55cm I think, how did that fit? I’m 5 10 tall / 31 inseam.

Oh, btw water bottles are even obligatory for going to the shops these days mate!

Ben, could we possibly get a bike check video? I'd love to see footage of what the clearance is on your gravel setup. I'm in between the domane and emonda at the moment.

Cheers!
