Ford Focus vs Honda Civic vs Hyundai Elantra 0-60 MPH

A three-way 0-60 MPH comparison test between the 2012 Ford Focus, 2012 Honda Civic and 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The Focus is a Five-Door Hatch, the Civic is a Coupe, the Elantra is a Sedan. All cars equipped with automatic transmissions.

We take requests ... if it's in our library, we'll try to get around to it, time permitting.

I'm trying out some different ideas for the 0-60 MPH Compare-O-Matic. I haven't abandoned the project ... it's just been on the back burner. I thought it might be cool to come up with a three-way acceleration competition with an interface that looked like it was lifted from a slot machine. I still have a way to go with that, but the basic idea is here ... let me know what you think, good or bad!

You have to keep in mind though the other specs too. Here is the breakdown Focus/Civic - HP 160/140 - Curb Weight 3030/2608 - Power to Weight Ratio

Pretty close numbers on the ratio and a good show from both cars. End point here is power isn't always the main performance factor. Weight makes a big difference too. Both are good cars.

With the 215/17 tires on good pavement with a good launch I've gotten my Focus to 60 (DCT) In under 8 (7.7-7.9 running 92 octane) Its definitely got potential.

Honda is so ahead of the time, they dont have to upgrade virtually anything inside their cars engines, trannys, or interior. they have had the coolest interior and hud in the class for around 6 years.

Ford focus curb weight is 3115lb Civic Coupe is 2745lb. Plus the Focus has a Dual Clutch Automatic.

Hey MPG do you have any on the 2012 or equvilant engine accord coupe? I just got a lx-s manual 2.4l and wanted to see the difference between the manual and automatic and maybe the v6 variant too.

why Elantra was tested without putting is gears into the manual sport mode?

the trouble is civicisbuilt2cheap, its not at all solid, sure it has airbags but thefocus is heavier and its built like VW golf or jetta which are the most solid cars at thisprice point, so concidering thatFocus is the winner

I would take the civic. I mean when your buying a compact car, its really only about the engine. and nothing beats VTEC

and Honda's 2700+ curb weight vs Hyndai's 2661, I mean, heavier SOHC tops a lighter DOHC? Amazing Japanese work.

My closest friend has a 2009 civic, runs smooth with 50, 000 miles but a bad burning smell has been coming from the motor. The transmission takes awhile to shift as well, it revs high before it shifts and it's not that he has a heavy foot because I get the same shifting reaction when im driving it.
