UNDERWATER ARROWS... IN A LAKE?

Показать описание
I shot the Lockdown Longbow into a pool to see what happens at a guesstimated distance of 1.5m the arrows had lost a lot of energy, but could still cause harm. Firstly, I suspect I over estimated the actual distance and secondly YOU also asked how far would the arrows travel?

My field has just flooded so now is the perfect moment to see how far a longbow arrow can actually travel.

"Out of adversity comes self knowledge" - this is either an ancient quote from a mystical guru or a line I just made up; but either way works for this film.

This will be my last film of the year; a very weird year and difficult year for us all. We have all made sacrifices in different ways this year, some very significant indeed. We are on this rollercoaster together and I would like to take this moment to thank all those, all over the world, who are fighting this Covid fight for us, on the front lines, day after long day. You are countless and amazing, and to me personally (thankfully) largely anonymous, but today I heard of a customer of mine and supporter of this channel, that fought as a paramedic and died as result, from Covid. Tomasz Napiorkowski, I salute you and all like you. Thank you.

We casually ask Tod a question and God's goes "ya know, that's a good question. I want to see too."
and BAM! Tod gets his own moat.

This looks like those post-apocalyptic situations where some dude is still doing his usual job while the world around him burns.

Thank you for this year Tod, this year you have really outdone yourself in amazing videos and super interesting experiments!
Your work on this channel not only contribute with awesome experiments, but really forces us to understand how the real world effect in the middle ages have to be.
This channel has for a few years been among my favorits, but particular your longbow videos has outshined nearly every other channel for me this year.
Thank you, and an awesome new year to you and your family!

You should retest your "Lockdown Longbow" to make sure it's still firing arrows at the correct speed after putting it in the water like that

I'm pretty confident that the compound crossbow is even less effective underwater than a simple crossbow because the more complicated mechanism has much more drag in operation, even if a bolt wasn't loaded. Thank you for all the great videos. Saving my pennies for a Tod's Cutlery product.

I was expecting a lady's hand to appear and Tod put a sword in then it be drawn below the surface.

This is why "Castle and Moat Building for Dummies" recommends that you keep crocodiles in your moat.

When bowfishing for carp here in the U.S. we use solid fiberglass arrows weighing about 95 grams (1450 gr). These are shot with no fletching to reduce drag and planing in water. The bows my friends and I shoot are modern recurves and compounds in the 50 lb range. Common carp are heavy fish with thick scales so if the arrow has enough force to drive the point completely through the fish it would definitely be enough to injure a person without armor. My observations would indicate that at around 2 meters, an arrow really starts to lose energy exponentially. At that depth a hit has to be spot on in order to not just glance off, taking a few scales with it.

Also in Pennsylvania at least, we call it OSB.

Somehow now I feel the need to see Skal testing how far thrown pommels travel underwater

Speaking of water and moats, would there be any difference in protection from a soaked gambeson? Thought just struck me when I saw you lower the crossbow underneath the water (hope it didn't make it into your house).
Also best of luck and a happy New Year to all.

I still remember half life having a crossbow that you could use as your only underwater weapon. from then on took it for granted they worked. So this does answer something i was curious about.

I suggested traveling to a pool. I didn't expect a lake to travel to you. This was true dedication. And a bit of humor as well with the table falling over constantly. This has been the best series.
