F-22 Raptor vs SU-57 - Which would win?

The raptor is optimized as a fast, high flying and stealth fighter jet. While the F-22 might be holding a better hand when it comes to stealth, the SU-57 has the edge in maneuverability due to its three-dimensional thrust vectoring engines.

1. Stealth
Stealth was a foundational feature of the F-22 as the plane’s design maximize sensor evasion with diamond shaped wings and sharp faceted surfaces...
In contrast the SU-57’s design places far less emphasis on all-aspect low observables. Instead, it focuses on frontal aspect stealth. This design philosophy gives the SU57 'PAC-Man' like signature. F-22's signature looks more like a spider...

2. Maneuverability
The F-22 Raptor is the most maneuverable fighter the U.S. has ever made. The Raptor uses two-dimensional vector-thrust jets which can only go up and down in unison...

On the other hand, SU-57 is even more maneuverable. The fighter uses 3-dimensional thrust vectoring jets. Its engine nozzles can literally tilt independently in any direction to assist it in executing impossible maneuvers...

Both aircraft are highly maneuverable. However, SU-57 advantage would be 3D thrust vectors giving it better performance in low axis. Whereas F-22’s 2D thrust vectors & larger control surfaces will give it better performance in pitch axis.

3. Performance
The F-22 is powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney afterburning turbofan engines that produces a total 70,000 pounds of thrust. The engines allow the Raptor to supercruise at Mach 1.82 without afterburners. With two external wing tanks, the F-22 can fly about 1,864mi. The raptor has top speed in excess of 1,726mph and the jet can perform combat operations within the radius of 528mi. Its service ceiling is around 65,000ft.

In contrast, Su-57 is powered by a pair of turbofan engines capable of generating 79,400 pounds of thrust. Unfortunately, the engines are undergoing difficulties and as a result the first batch of the aircraft will be powered by Su-35’s engines. The Su-57's aerodynamics and engines enable it to supercruise at Mach 1.6. With ferry range of 2,200mi, the top speed of the aircraft is 1,535mph. With service ceiling of 66,000ft, its effective range of operation is up to 930mi.
For the jet to effectively take on F-22, it would need the engines that maximize the design philosophies it was intended for...

4. Radar & Avionics
Both F-22 and SU-57 have active electronically scanned array radars which are stealthier, more resistant to jamming and boast higher fidelity...

In order to detect stealth jets, the SU-57 has modern infra-red search and track system with a 31mi of range. The raptor’s engines nozzles are designed to reduce heat signature, diminishing detection range...

Overall, the Raptor has a better avionics and radar systems because of superior computing technology. The Raptor will probably have an advantage in other areas as well, such as network enabled operations, data fusion and electronic warfare.

5. Firepower
The Raptor has three weapons bays. One of which can carry one Sidewinder missile. The second bay can accommodate 6 amraam missiles with a range up to 112mi...

On the other hand, the jet has 2 large internal weapons bays, taking up virtually the entire length of the aircraft. Each bay can carry up to 4 BVR radar-guided missiles with ranges in excess of 100mi...

Both planes carry long range radar-guided missiles of comparable effectiveness. SU57 has its cutting-edge K-77M missiles with a reported range of 120mi. While the United States has the amraam scorpion with a range in excess of 112miles. The bottom line is that both cutting-edge aircraft have advantages over each other and could come out victorious on any day. However, much will depend on the battle specifics than anything else.

What i love the most, is they don't use that stupid robot voice! I hate that so much

The main difference is one of these jets is capable of actually functioning reliably as well as being manned by pilots who have substantial training hours logged. The other gets none of those advantages.

F22 Raptor Cost $350m
SU-57 Cost £50m

That is a 7-1 ratio. That is a huge ratio in any fight.

Both aircraft are badass. Just different design philosophies. Top 10 anime Rivalries.

Being radar visible from the rear would only concern the French Air Force!

At the end of the day if these two jets were to engage in a dogfight, it would be the skills and decisions of the pilots that would decide the fight

All I know is. TheyvRe both absolute badasses. That scene in top gun, the su-57’s combined with the music made for a super sweet epic moment. The Russian jet looks cool af

Well, considering that the F-22 has been fielded in their dozens as part of the U.S. inventory for almost a decade, and the Su-57 is not yet part of ANY inventory, with the Kuznetzov TV powerplants designed for the airframe still technically on the drawing board and with Su-35 powerplants in their stead... I'd say the odds weigh pretty heavily in the Raptor's favor.

In the end, it depends on situational awareness, strategy, and training. Mistakes kill. Loyal Wingman and Valkyrie drones, working in unison with stealth, and 4.5 gen fighters, should not be excluded either since they are part A.I. platforms and will give fighter pilots 6th gen capabilities.

I've watched dozens of simulation exercises, and the SU-57's only chance is if it manages to get within visible dogfight range and even then 3 out of 5 engagements went to the F22. But in reality the battle was almost always over long before they jets were in visible range. watching simulations where each side scrambled to engage from any real distance was actually boring to watch... The fighters go up, the SU gets shot down before it even knew where the F22 was.... The only chance the SU had for survival is if it just happened to be tracking directly at the F22, which never happens when you don't know exactly where the F22 is. basically, you can't kill what you can't see, and the F22 will definitely see the SU long before the SU sees it.
