Teams Organizing Races Without NASCAR

NASCAR Cup Series Teams are looking at organizing races without NASCAR via Wasserman and the Race Team Alliance or RTA. These would fundamentally change the way the sport of NASCAR operates. Is this a serious effort or are the teams using this as a negotiation tactic to get the share of the TV revenue that they want from nascar.

A little friendly revolt never hurt anyone.. lol. NASCAR did this to themselves. I like it

Great story, the teams deserve more. Also can’t help but wonder about the Porsche cost in the background

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lucas Oil step up and put their name on a series. They already have the dirt late models, off road, monster truck, many more im probably not aware of. Plus, the connection with Kyle Larson and the Rumley's, he's brought a few other drivers to dirt, and is supposed to be starting a sprint car series with his brother in law. Lucas doesn't seem to have any issues with putting $ out there.

Seems Nascar wants most of the money drivers and teams get the crumbs

Called for this when the revenue sharing became a topic this year...THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT CAN HAPPEN...& could b great for the sport as a whole! After a BAD non traditional(stock) car with little tie to the production market and cars on the street, back impact driver injury issues, the fkn number move, & terrible racing on short, intermediate, & road courses NASCAR has made a shambles of our beloved CUP series!!! A MAJOR PART of the PROBLEM stems from the broken revenue sharing and sponsorship model! If u are old enough to have been around during the ASA & independent ARCA days, it made nascar better!!! SRX proves it can b done n modern age & with an emphasis on the FANS(especially at track)!!!! IMO this is GREAT NEWS!!!!

The charters were turned into another benifit to nascar. Great to see the teams going for leverage. Nascar has been running their series into the dirt, The owners need to protect themselves..

So it is just a threat to gain leverage at the table! I hope they hold an event and it is wildly successful!

It better for everybody if we stay together!

This sounds like the beginnings of the CART/USAC split back in the day that would eventually turn into a CART/IRL war that ruined American open wheel racing’s popularity

Ratings are down, straight across the board. The owners and NASCAR assume their will be more money, may not be true.

This is definitely a power move on the RTA’s part. Just the possibility, I believe is enough to get NASCAR to get its head out of its ass.
The fact that 65% of the deal goes to the tracks is insane. The track is not the draw, the teams are the draw. What has happened as a result of this insanity is the tracks have no incentive to promote the events. They get paid whether there are asses in the seats or not. I live here in Phoenix and I see zero promotion for either of the dates.
The split should be in favor of the teams. At worst it should be 45% for the tracks, 45% for the teams and 10% to NASCAR.
We all saw what happened when Indy car had their split and they have barely recovered from it some 20 years later.
I hope and pray that the France family gets the message and does the right thing here.

I've seen many racing series splits over the years everything from midget and sprintcar series up to IndyCar. It rarely adds more racing teams, usually splits the teams, dilutes the quality of racing and splits the fan base and is costly to all. It can even kill off an entire series.

NASCAR has the upper hand here since the charters are really franchises and the teams are franchisees. But NASCAR also has a vested interest in the teams remaining economically viable. If even the top teams continuously lose money the franchises become worthless and the whole corporation collapses.

Calls the split went so well for Indy car.

Red Bull has a bunch of money now there's a spending cap in F1 now. Probably at least 100 million they can't spend now. Go teams

Honestly if the big teams wanted to be profitable, they could cut back, but they don't wanna do that because they won't be as competitive. I don't think the argument of them not running the team at a profit for a long time is a solid enough foundation for a split. Rick Hendrick makes a huge chunk of his money from sources outside of NASCAR and therefore is able to fund his team with more money than just what is made from Nascar. NASCAR could implement a cost cap if they wanted it to be profitable for the teams. I do however think the tracks earn too much and have been more apathetic towards dwindling crowds due to less reliance on ticket sales. I do think however even if they increase the amount of money the teams make they're still not gonna make any money because they're just gonna spend even more.

I hope they get a deal done soon! As you mentioned in the video and a comment below, it has not really worked out well for other Motorsports series. The NASCAR brand is what casual fans recognize/remember and us die hards love! NASCAR needs the best stock car racers in it to acquire even more fans, not spread out amongst competing series. Thanks for the conversation and content BB!

Those drivers and teams will soon learn, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you". Drivers and teams will find out they need NASCAR, more than NASCAR needs them.Who owns the racetracks?who pays the most?Aren't drivers already racing on the side?Ask Curtis Turner how it worked out for him when he tried to organize the drivers into a union, Teamsters, not so well. This is what happens when you bring in the N.B.A. and N.F.L. ideas of money to NASCAR, this could be the straw that breaks the teams backs, because NASCAR, doesn't intend to be threatened.

So far nascar hasn’t proven that they want to listen to the drivers & teams so I’m not sure this will get their attention.
