Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, Scott Adkins

Film description: On top of his game, the brilliant but arrogant New York City neurosurgeon with the magic hands, Dr. Stephen Strange, is more interested in fame and his perfect success rate than saving lives. Then, humbled by a nearly fatal car accident, and with both his impeccable career and his gifted hands mangled beyond repair, Strange heads to Kamar-Taj, a mystical place of healing in Kathmandu, begging the Ancient One, the Sorcerer Supreme and leader of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, for salvation and enlightenment. However, war is brewing over, as the corrupt, power-obsessed former disciple, Kaecilius, and his Zealots, are bent on unlocking an unfathomable parallel dimension, and usher in a new dark era on Earth. Now, the world is on the verge of destruction. Can Doctor Strange harness his extraordinary newfound abilities, and accept his destiny?

Props to both Benedict and Rachel in this scene. They're both experts when it comes to the nuance to pull a scene like this off.

I didnt realize how heartbreaking this scene is. Christine was just trying to help, she cares about him, truly, but it just translates wrongly to Stephen since he was also in a very broken mental state. It is just heartbreaking to see Stephen pushes away the one friend that truly cares so much for him, while she was just trying to help and really wants him to be better

I recognize very well what Stephen is feeling. When we feel like there's no way of solving our problems, our anxiety get the better of us and make us act cold and arrogant. Despite everything that he is suffering, Christine stayed by his side to help him rise up and move on. However, Stephen is too drowned in his negative emotions that he ignored her and send her away.

I know very well the state he's in, because I once feel that way too. Sometimes, my anxiety still gets the better of me, but now I'm learning to be stronger than my negative emotions. This should be a lesson to everyone who relates to Stephen.

This setting is such a contrast to the powers he gets later on. Out of context this scene is quite the jump from this to spawning fiery portals and traveling other dimensions etc.

1:22 It's like he really has hit rock bottom and his bitterness is costing him the only person that still gives a damn about him. He can't see past his own pain, nor even consider a consultant position because he is jaded by his success. He's still a doctor, and there are other ways he can still help people, but at this point, it's all about him. The credibility and the accolades more so than the patient. It's like his Hippocratic oath is taking a backseat to the largest paycheck, and that was the case before his accident.

And that’s why you lost the girl, even when you became a super hero. Think before you say something very stupid.

I don't understand what the big deal is. He's a genius surgeon, great. He loses his hands, he still has an MD and career. He can can be a consultant or GP. That can then fund his future surgeries.

I didn't realize until like two months ago that Christine is played by Rachael McAdams

I know exactly what stephen is going through it’s not personal it’s frustration and hopelessness within yourself that makes you project onto other people especially those that love you enough to stay by your side when you are the most difficult to deal with

God I love this movie, and especially this scene!, and here's why:
Having that doctor (on the Skype call) not help him because it would hurt his reputation to help Doctor Strange (as he's perceived as a lost-cause), is exactly what he did with Jonathan Pangborn earlier in the film, who later on in the movie helps Stephen by letting him know of the location of which he becomes a sorcerer: at Kamar-Taj.
