People are attracted to those they have things in common with BUT who has the traits we lack. So if you're all over the place you are attracted so someone in control, or if you're scared of stepping out of your comfortzone but want to, then you're attracted to someone who's not afraid to try new things. But at the same time you need to have things in common so you can bond, like you both like reading or you're both adventurous, and of course you need to have similar values.

i think opposites do attract if they are the same deep down, like an introvert who wish to be extrovert would feel attracted to an extrovert too, or a cold/harsh person with a heart of gold would feel attracted to the other nice and sweet person...kinda the beauty and the beast syndrom

They attract, yes, but they are less likely to last.

In the long term I do believe one is better off with someone similar.

But there is something exciting about someone different.

That saying has always been foolish to me.if I like Hiking and nature photography why would I want a girl who likes, shopping and fashion. If I like videos games and camping why would I want a girl who likes football and goings to gigs (two things I hate)opposites do not attract for me I'd need a girl who had as much in common with me as possible for a proper bond to be formed.I think that's why so many relationships fail because people listen to stupid things like those who share nothing is common with you will make the best partners.

I wouldn't wish being similar to me on anyone. :U

Okay. For the most part, I DON'T believe this saying. :/ Let's be realistic people: Most relationships take place because of SIMILARITIES. Like almost any similarities. It's probably because of interests, personalities, etc. I mean, NOT EVERYTHING is going to be similar with a partner, but still. I think you get what I'm saying. Even if "opposites attract", there's got to be SOME similarity between them. I mean, that's my opinion anyway. If anyone could tell me a story that they know a couple who are opposites and have stayed together for a LONG time. Like 20+ years, then do tell please. But I am sorry, but those are really rare in my opinion. :p Even so I got to admit, it is a bit impressive.

There is a reason most places on Earth are very homogenous. No matter how much you zoom in on societies, they tend to be very alike.

A minor tweak to "People are more likely to date their own race"... that's not entirely true when given a choice and means to broaden the prospective gene pool on their own means...
I think it was Jessica Williams on The Daily Show, last year (2015) who did a piece on this and found that a sizeable number of people on dating websites appear to be more likely to pass over profiles for certain races. That biases regarding certain social concepts factored into the search for a mate.
Was an interesting piece for what it was suggesting - It's an incomplete investigation to be sure, being only a 5 minute piece, but the information appears to be out there.

This is so sweet! And super interesting, as always, of course. I love the music too.

I have no idea, but opposites shouldn’t attract, love is a signal the brain sends when someone has similar genes

Opposites always attract each other in one way or another and in my opinion, they give it away when they said they got married.

I as a person that has ADHD thinks that I can explain that same or similar disorder(s) attract.
I and a girl in my class. hadn't told each other that we have ADHD and PDDnos. but we kinda knew that we had the same thing. we just knew, felt it.
when everyone in class needed to raise their hand if they had autism because one kid with it was bullied, and he thought it was because of that, and that people would change when they knew.

we found out. for the record we aren't friends. she is a brat that always wears heels sticks her but out and wears a crap ton of makeup. I'm the opposite.
but I do sometimes find out that I like people who have the same thing as me, but also in the same way and degree. since I have mild and are really calm. I think the really hyperactive are annoying.
but it's kind of a thing that you have a similar way of thinking. and maybe you can't really understand humans, and they can't understand you, you like it when people who you actually can understand...
maybe it's almost like a different language. only the words are the same in that more common one, but how you talk. and what you do and say, small behaviors that aren't considered normal.

maybe it has something to do with the fact that you are likely to experienced the same thing when you got the diagnosis.
for me it was heavy denial and constantly crying when it even came up, and it wasn't even about me.
just because I wanted to be normal.
maybe that you have the same kind of struggles in this world. struggles that are signs and where you get the diagnosis based on.
like in a test that was IMPOSSIBLE to study for. almost everyone in our class failed. but I and a boy that has the same diagnosis.
passed.
we even got the exact same mark and we made similar mistakes. if that doesn't shows that we think kinda similar. I don't know what does.
but a different boy (OK my crush) also thinks really similar to me. only he has dyslexia and also glasses (I have glasses) he failed the test like everyone else.

so maybe the diagnosis had something to do with it. since we would have been accused of cheating if we hadn't sat at opposite sides of the room and finished with a little time in between

What does "chemistry" mean in the romantic context?

It could mean so many things, and no one ever specifies. I feel like it's a problematic term.

It could mean
1) lust, since chemicals are involved with lust
2) having an emotional and "clicking" interaction dynamic, since chemistry involves the pairing and bonding, suggesting a conjugate or psychological "fit"
3) literal chemicals as in pheromones, which a person would experience as some sort of subconscious attraction and preference.
4) literal chemicals as in drugs.
