This is interesting. I'm German and I used to live in New York. I never noticed the intrusive R. I do, however, hear it a lot in British English speakers... Not Scotland or Wales - but England.

Hi, Gabby...it's me!!!!The intruder...Well, the letter "R" in portuguese, is writting " ERRE" that's mean " mistake" in English. "R R" is "Erre, "Erre "( Mistake, Mistake) but after I hit the target...& When I get the target, the Universe say: an hour I'll get your heart & you'll not without me like a mothballs can't living without a old closet in the dark room waiting the moon arrive. Thanks & bye!

Yep, some New Yorkers say it, otherwise it's not common in American English. Very common in British English.

These intrusive words is what we would call the accent?
I had trouble listening to those when I just first started listening to natives. Eventually I got used to it, but never really came to give it a more profound thought to it.
