America's first mega-project was actually the transcontinental railway. 3000 miles coast to coast built 20 years earlier than the Brooklyn Bridge.

Very impressive. Both the bridge and the presentation of the video.

The engineers back then are on a different level; everything was hand drawn and visualized in there head. Plus everything was hand calculated, compared to now we; have all kind of computer simulation software.

I am so impressed by the history of this project and the courage of its builder that I hope I will be able to see this bridge up close. I will try to get a closer look at it

Thank you for this awesome presentation. ❤

As Americans, I think we often times forget our own achievements. We need stuff like like this to remind us of what we're capable of.

I have read David McCullough's "The Great Bridge" which goes into great--sometimes torturous detail about the construction. There is no way to catch all of the astonishing details of its construction.
What I did not know--and it is so terribly Brooklyn-like--was everyone terrified to cross it in a panic from the reports that the bridge might fall down.
I think it made perfect sense that it took PT Barnum and his circus walking across the bridge to give the green light that the bridge was solid. If it could stand up to pacaderms, it could hold someone's fat sister Sue and her even fatter family.
I personally consider the PT Barnum story the best of them all!!
Fine work! Thanks for brightening my day, too! 💯

This is one reason Roebling was the best bridge builder in the World ! The Brooklyn Bridge is more famous, than its older sister (16 years older), but she is still a beauty to the Cincinnati area residents . They know theyre about home when she pops into view at the bottom of "The Cut in the Hill" !

I can't believe the bridge was built in the 19th century.

One has to wonder how he convinced the local government to do this project.
