The track ‘Soak’ makes me cry. This in my opinion as an artist myself is the highest compliment you could give to an artist, that connection of catharsis is paramount.

Found it to be Zola's most interesting album so far. Interesting that you found Soak to be a weak track - I personally liked it the most. Give Ulver's new album 'The assassination of Julius Caesar' a spin if you haven't already - so far this might just make it to the very top of my 2017 listenings.

I'd say this is a somewhat fair assessment, although I'd give the album a higher overall rating because the tracks that do hit home, for me at least, really hit home hard. Her emotional tone and delivery resonates on the best tracks, even if her range throughout the record isn't quite as dynamic compared to other singers in a similar genre (but let's be honest, Zola Jesus doesn't really fit into any cookie cutter genre, so... apples to oranges, right?). Just my 2 cents.
