Iran is a country that has managed to maintain its sovereignty despite facing significant geopolitical challenges for centuries. Whether we talk about modern military powers or historical empires, few have succeeded in subduing this strategically critical nation. But what makes Iran so difficult to invade? In this video, we’ll explore the geopolitical, military, cultural, and geographical factors that create this resilience.

Occupation is not easy. Empires that invaded Iran always withdrew in a short time or Iran melted them in that geography. Similarly, Afghanistan is one of the impossible places to occupy. Even the US army could not last long and withdrew.

it's like afghanistan but harder like.. 4x harder, prime iraq couldn't take on it even after iran was at it's weakest point just out of a civil war, ruled by a part that didn't know much about politics or war, also they didn't receive any military aid

An all out invasion of Iran 🇮🇷 will be a disaster...

Afghanistan 🇦🇫 is approximately 652, 230 sq km, while Iran is approximately 1, 648, 195 sq km, making Iran *153% larger* than Afghanistan. If you look at a detailed topographical map of Iran, it's a very mountainous country. Under Trump, there was talk of the US deploying *120, 000* troops, but that wouldn't be nearly enough to go up against Iran’s *523, 000* conventional military force (Iranian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Revolutionary Guard).

In 2003, the allied force that toppled Saddam in Iraq 🇮🇶 was a little more than *300, 000* (nearly 200, 000 were US Military)

Iran today has a military force better trained and better equipped than Iraq was in 1991 during the Gulf War...

If Iranian pulls their revolutionary guard forces out of Syria and Yemen, they can put about *450, 000* combat personnel in the field (not counting the unknown number of proxy forces (like groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and Houthis, among others) that will likely attack US forces and allies throughout the Middle East) using a combination of conventional and asymmetrical warfare tactics (guerrilla warfare) with both conventional and improvised weapons being a major thorn in our side, at the very least...

An overwhelming force in a mountainous battlefield against a large well trained, well equipped military force we're looking at *480, 000* troops but probably closer to *600, 000* troops (or more) with the support of the British 🇬🇧, French🇫🇷, and some of the other European allies, our European allies are more concerned with Russia than Iran, and they don’t have a lot of troops to deploy in an invasion of Iran, and with Saudi Arabia bogged down in Yemen with their thumbs up their asses. And other allies like, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Oman are too small to assist in any significant way, so we'll likely have to go in alone with more troops (lots more)

So in all likelihood, we're looking at numbers closer to a minimum of *750, 000* - *800, 000* (or more) US military combat personnel, plus logistical/medical support...

...that's almost *DOUBLE* the number of troops we had in Vietnam during the height of the Vietnam war (543, 000 in April 1969)

To put that into perspective, in Desert Storm the allied Coalition had *956, 600* troops including *700, 000* US troops, going up against 650, 000 Iraqi soldiers. In Iraq and Kuwait the allied Coalition was fighting in a mostly flat featureless desert, in Iran, we'd be fighting in mountains where small numbers of troops can hold up entire companies...

We would likely have to do amphibious landings and secure key areas of the Iranian coastline, further inland we could do air assaults (landing troops by helicopter near an enemy position) but flying helicopters through mountain passes is risky, in Afghanistan *70* US helicopters have been lost to enemy fire by untrained/poorly trained terrorists. Imagine what a well trained or moderately trained and well equipped or moderately equipped military force could do in the confines of a mountain pass where helicopters can't really maneuver...

Mountain warfare is almost always in the favor of the defending force, it's not possible to move large armored offensive formations into mountain passes...

The logistics alone would be an absolute nightmare, all ammunition, medical supplies for the wounded, food, water, spare parts, and reinforcements would have to pass through mountain passes (until we could start seizing intact airfields further inland) that would be contested for the duration of the war, and that's *NOT GOOD* and that would be very costly in terms of lives and the potential loss of valuable supplies (like food and water)...

There's no way in Hell that we can invade Iran without a *HUGE* multinational coalition force trained for prolonged attritional mountain warfare...

…and it’s safe to assume that Iraq will *NOT* be a part of the coalition, and will *NOT* permit the US to use their territory as a staging point or to pass through their airspace since 5 Iraqis were killed in the attack that assassinated Soleimani. Turkey 🇹🇷 is largely an ally in name only, and they have no interest in a war against Iran 🇮🇷 (they’re more interested in fighting Israel 🇮🇱)

Iran's Air Defense consists of Russian made, US made (Cold War era), and domestically made air defense missile systems including The S-300 (NATO reporting name SA-10 Grumble) one of the best Air Defense systems in the world...

During any air campaign, Iran can utilize decoys to reduce casualties, in Operation Allied Force (Mar 24, 1999 – Jun 10, 1999) Serbia 🇷🇸 made a bunch of decoys with inflatable tanks, plywood, and moving around old and decommissioned vehicles to fool satellites NATO bombed them and after the Operation was complete most of Serbian 🇷🇸 troops withdrew out of Kosovo mostly intact with little losses...

Revised NATO estimates have Serbian casualty estimates that are surprisingly low: In 78 days, 11, 000 shorties, 20, 000 missiles, and bombs used resulted in less than 20 tanks destroyed (down from 120 in the original claim), ‘a few dozen’ artillery pieces destroyed, (down from 400 in the original claim). ‘a few dozen’ APCs (down from 200 in the original claim) and less than 1, 000 Serb troops killed (down from 5, 000 - 10, 000 in the original claim). Iran can use similar tactics since Iran has a lot of decommissioned tanks that could be used as decoys…

The honest truth is, we don't have the manpower numbers to deter *China*, *North Korea*, and *Russia* and fight *Iran* at the same time. We would have to triple the size of our military, not just in funding but in the amount of equipment and in the number of personnel...
