"Sorry mate, didn't find what I needed" my dad would say as 9yo old me walked out with a starter motor and half a ford escort tucked down my trousers 😂

Best find at a scrap yard was a full toolbox in the boot of a car. Went in with one box of tools between the two of us, walked out with one each.

Went to a scrapyard once.
That asked 100£ for a pulley, ended up buying genuine brand new shipped from Germany to my house for 70£ and I didn’t had to take it off my self.

had some amazing deals from scrapyard's, pulled out a full interior & found a fiver behind the dash, went to pay for it & the guy running it said ... "give us a fiver for it", nice one bud 🤣

A new Bosch coilpack is like £25, you can keep your scrapyard ones for £10 🤣

Idont go anymore. They wanted 25 for a crusty rear spring the wrong size, saying it was better than my broken one. I got a brand new one from europarts for 32

I used to visit one particular scrap yard and I could wander around finding bits for my Cortinas. A couple of years ago, i went back there to get a wheel for my sons Fiesta. I had said to my son i know where we can get you a wheel. Went into their office and its now - you got to go on our website, then you make an appointment to collect. And yet I could see a bunch of Fiestas through the wire fencing. Went home and got one off Amazon

Life with my first cars from passing my test in 1977 was visiting the scrap yard. Wickersley specifically. Kept my 1967 Ford Anglia alive. Then my 1974 MGBGT. I could not afford knew. But with my dad, the walk through the scrap yard was social. Good fun. Learning and best of all.. saving a fortune !

Nothing beats the feeling of finding the same car as yours at the scrappies

I loved visiting the scrapyard! I remember when I was sixteen, my buddy and I were hanging out in an RV, just chilling and smoking. Out of nowhere, a giant spider crawled up my leg. I was so stoned I kicked a hole in the busted up dash! But then a bunch of money flew out, and I ended up counting $82 in change. We used it to buy an aftermarket intake with aftermarket fuel rail and injectors for my car (they only charged me 60 for it) and grabbed some McDonald's for us good times!

You can buy decent bosch coil packs for a mini for less than 25£ each brand new! + Headlight caps are what, £4-6 each brand new... I'd just go online

I went for a facia for a head unit once, I brought it to the counter and the guy said he wouldn't sell that and that I'd need to take the entire head unit.
It surrounded heater control, CD unit and a display separately and he wanted a fortune for all 3.
Never been back to one since.

Okay for bits of trim, but mostly anything electrical or mechanical can be found new. The crazy thing is the number or cars scrapped due to the cost of small repairs.

I used to love GW Bridges at Pease Pottage. Starting visiting in 2009. It was a Saturday morning staple with both yards open. Could spent hours there and strip interiors, engine bits, trim pieces, harnesses for our project cars. They even had an onsite cafe. Covid ruined it all and the yards never reopened to DIY. All picked to order now or off the shelf. If not enough valuable item they won't bother. Also the cars you find there now are zero interest.
