Deena Kuruvilla, MD, Westport Headache Institute, Westport, CT, talks on non-pharmacologic devices such as CEFALY in migraine prevention and treatment landscape. Dr Kuruvilla highlights that there are limitations on how much acute medications, such as triptans, can be prescribed to patients, particularly in the United States. Often the number of tables available per month is not enough. Therefore, the addition of a non-pharmacological device may be helpful for acute migraine treatment. In some instances, the use of the device can replace the pharmacologic treatment. For migraine prevention, Dr Kuruvilla suggests these devices may be helpful in addition to other preventive treatments and give an additional advantage in the treatment plan. This interview took place during the International Headache Congress 2021.
