It's why some famous faces go through painful nips, tucks, and makeovers to try to maintain their young looks and remain relevant.

But sometimes, these changes in appearance can leave a celebrity looking totally different -- and for all the wrong reasons. That’s not usually a good thing in Hollywood. These are the celebs who are completely unrecognizable these days.

Poor Shelley Duvall! I had no idea she had a mental illness (I don't watch talk shows). I used to watch "Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre" when I was a toddler. I could remember Robin Williams as the frog prince and the Hansel and Gretel episode. I've had the DVD box set for years and still love the show. Such a shame. I hope she can get some help.

This is ageist. While some of the changed looks are due to botched plastic surgery, most seem to be due to old age.  It isn't unattractive to age, it's natural. People who poke fun at senior citizens or criticize their looks are just plain mean.

Granted watching a list of unrecognizable celebs is awful in its own right, adding a person with a documented mental health illness is just not okay. Actually, adding physical and or mental health issues just isn't okay. Again, as a person watching this I get the irony and hypocrisy of this virtuous stance. There is a clear difference between a botched plastic surgery and weight gain/loss AND having serious health (mental or physical).
