This comparison focuses purely on medium vans – those with a gross vehicle mass of between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes – which can all be driven on a regular car licence.

Our field includes two of the segment's big hitters – the top-selling Toyota HiAce and its runner up, the Hyundai iLoad – which together account for roughly half of the medium van sales in Australia.

In fact, for this test we've secured one of the first examples of Toyota's next-generation HiAce, the model representing the first changing of the guard for the nameplate in 15 years.

Then we have three well-established contenders in Ford's Transit Custom, Renault's Trafic and Volkswagen's Transporter, which all attract similar market shares, plus the latest new entrant to the category, Peugeot's Expert.

I bought the 2019 transit 340l and now done 16000km. Absolutely love it. As a carpenter it does everything I need it to do and is a pleasure to drive. Will do my own owner video soon.

How did you get a resale value from two new models, HiAce and the Peugeot? How did you compare performance without mentioning different powertrain options in the HiAce and the VW? Why did you not mention cargo space at all in the HiAce? This was not a review, it was a Ford advertisement.

Thanks for the great review from the UK. Keep changing my mind on which van to buy in a year or two…. My current 2009 expert has been extremely reliable… just want something which is a bit more comfortable on longer journeys next and has more refinement in the cabin!

Toyota will be still driving in 10 -15 years time

I drove vans all my life and trust me when I tell you than when it comes to vans there are only a couple of things that matter, firstly you don`t want a front wheel drive ( they suck ) and the second thing if you can is to try to avoid automatics ( they also suck ) also consider a DIESEL perhaps

Mate you forgot to mention about the Ford Vans about their seats, for me it’s crap, as we cannot “lean back the car seats”....because isn’t enough space between the seats 💺 and the cargo barrier, it’s has no space, to do so!??
The cargo wall it’s glued with the seats 💺, looks like!

It’s a huge problem for those w is going to be on the roads all day, seating in 90 Degrees(L) throughout the bloody days!

Every single van here is a Winner.
Ford have done slightly more homework Ergonomically.

Unfortunately the Ford will depreciate the most owing to it not being reliable past the 100km mark and more rust than other vans. But you can't compare brand new vans for those qualities.

Toyota are great cars but generally overhyped, other car models have really improved on their "reliability" which is pretty much subjective.

I could have told you this at the beginning it outsells the others 3 to one

I think what you get with hyundai is the guarantee that one day day it won't break down with 1500$ repair cost

I bought a new reno trafic in 2019. I've called road side assist 4 times. Absolute garage.

if the reviews are coming from an English-speaking country than there is no way any other brand comes on top other than ford no matter if other brands are studded with diamonds.

Transit custom is to soft to be a work van, nothing but trouble, is it even a van?

Disappointing there’s no Nissan nv350 contender, yet there’s a Renault.

I wonder why the winning van (ford) is the only one in dark color and the rest are white
