SEL at its best is attempting to provide morals and emotional stability via assembly line. It asserts that every child will benefit, and not be harmed by, being treated as if they are at risk, whether they are or not. I'm two chapters into Understood Betsy, and I already think it should be required reading for anyone who thinks SEL in schools is our salvation.

May 19 th 2021 Governor Whitmer of Michigan sign executive order 2021-02 “ Mi Blueprint for Comprehensive Student Recovery “. It’s a 40 page read and I do believe it’s SEL. I’ve been to my grandchildren’s school board meetings and asked questions about this last month, needless to say they all looked dumbfounded. 2 days after the meeting the superintendent called me and we had a 20 minute chat. Learning all I can for next school board meeting.

I work at a middle school and we teach social health as a regular part of over all well-being in health class. As well as its stated in our text books. Any unhealthy person will have struggles learning and comprehending due to extenuating circumstances.

How can we find resources to help parents balance out what they are learning in their SEL classes? Are there any books to support parents at home?

The implementation of SEL just passed about three weeks ago. I am on my County's Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services. I bring this up because as noted in the video, assessments would be done by non-professionals. Well, during the budget reviews of agencies providing mental health services, several agencies were asking for additional tax payer dollars from the Board specific to K-12 program for SEL. I put my foot down on this and forced actions to reject funding via our Board. There is a fear from the school districts in our County that they will be sued for not having professionals implementing the programs and therefore they are reaching out to mental health service providers to assist. I'd like to have further discussions with Pioneer staff on two fronts: 1st - who in Oh is taking on SEL and Common Core like you are? and 2nd - I am doing research on the total cost to implement SEL and cannot find much on this. Here is my sore toe: If the Oh Governor has SEL in the State Budget and the School Districts have to budget for SEL and then the various agencies come to the Mental Health Board for funding, I see this as triple taxation to support SEL. But what are the real costs in tax dollars? I'd appreciate engaging in that research effort.
