In today's series of the most evil people (Most Evil Man) that have ever lived, we are going to give you Ivan the Terrible!

Ivan the Terrible, or Ivan Vasilyevich, was born on August 25th, 1530, and almost from the moment of his birth, his life was destined to not be a happy one. Three years after his birth, his father died of infection- this was after all the 16th century and medical technology had barely advanced past the stage of rubbing feces into open wounds. To make matters worse, Muscovy itself was a significantly backwards land, while Europe was in full on Renaissance mode, Muscovy was caught in the vice-like grip of the Dark Ages. This would be a problem that plagued the Russian state until the 20th century, as it would fight over and over again to rise above its status as Europe's backwater.

The painting of him realizing he's killed his son (and heir) is haunting.

In TV, bad childhoods inspire people to be a better person than their parents.

In real life, it's quite the opposite.

There's a story that said, during the Massacre of Novgorod, that Ivan had very unique forms of execution born from his demented mind. Allegedly, Ivan had a large frying pan created, and he used it to literally roast his enemies. Not to mention the Archbishop of Novgorod was sewn into bear skin and thrown to the dogs. He boiled his treasurer alive in a cauldron. His Councilor was even hung and the Orpichniki took turns hacking the Councilor's limbs off.

Suffice to say, when the Russians call you 'the terrible' they're not messing around.

6:08 Text Bubble: "If I eat one more potato I'm going to turn into a spud myself".
There were no potatoes in Muscovy during Ivan's times. Potato plants were introduced in Russia a 100 years after Ivan's reign and then it took another 100 years for potatoes to become a food staple.
The turnip was the Russian staple food until the mid-XVIII century.

People always say, “Ivan the Terrible, he's so terrible. I'm so scared of Ivan. He's bad news."

When in fact, the correct translation is “Ivan the Awesome”

You skipped over one of the worst monstorous things he did. He caused his sons wife to miscarry in an attack and when his son rushed to defend her, Ivan stuck his son in the head. His son and only heir died a few days later.

You guys went pretty easy on old Ivan. He was much more ruthless and brutal than described in this video. I guess this is the PG13 version.
