An eternal battle between Good and Evil?

Throughout the history of our planet we have seen that our political and religious rulers have tried to withhold the truth from people. Almost always they abused their power and tyrannized the people by constantly waging wars to keep us away from what was most important. Is this a fate that we are doomed to live forever, or is there a chance for salvation?
