Read this book for school, and it was the first time I was really informed of the details of the evolution of the societies in the world. Good, clear, analytical writing from Diamond.

~12 but didn't we find out that smallpox actually came back from the Americas with Columbus' men and then was modified and came back again, and that that was what was so deadly?

It is historicaly, culturally, geographically and scientifically flawed when it came to his research on further research. Although, some of his argument is seemingnly correct, his thoughts and theories concerning Africa were severely flawed and had many pseudo historic like features with little to no proof and flawed scientific backing.
