Anthony Ammirati won’t be advancing to the men's pole vault final at the Paris Olympics, but contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with his crotch.

Ammirati, 21, gained viral attention on Saturday, August 3, after a video of one of his pole vault attempts made it seem like he failed to clear the bar because of his "bulge," which appeared to knock down the crossbar. This theory quickly spread across social media and headlines, but a detailed review of the video reveals that this wasn't the case.

During his jump, Ammirati first makes contact with the bar using his shins and then his knees. This already rendered the jump unsuccessful, but to add to the embarrassment, he eventually dislodges the bar completely with his crotch.

As anticipated, Sweden's Armand Duplantis remains the top contender, aiming to defend his gold medal from the 2020 Tokyo Games.
