I never deployed.

Born in ‘99, grew up through the GWOT era, turned 18 and enlisted in the army. Injured and forced to try again. 5 years of paperwork and I finessed my way back into the army. Kandahar. Ukraine. Global escalation. 2021 and I arrive at my unit only for combat deployments to come to a screeching halt. 2024 and all dreams and aspirations to see combat, serve my country, to join the likes of the men I grew up with are nothing but dust and resentment. My time in service is far too bitter to have ever been sweet.

I wish I could have lived the life this song and imagine portray. I was so close…

but I never deployed.
