Day 129 - Early Start to beat the crowds
The Acropolis is a must when visiting Athens. However, last time we went it was a fantastic and terrible experience. The heat was unbearable and the crowds were the worst ever. To avoid these, we decided to wake up at 06:30 am and run to the top of the Acropolis as soon as the gates opened. This was a great idea as we were one of the first ones up, only beaten by the cats. It’s alluring how beautiful the area is without people. It was magical! So we managed to beat the crowds, happy days! However, the heat was still insufferable. It was 8am and my body had formed many sweat streams. As soon as the crowds started to increase, we headed down. After looking around the Acropolis slopes which includes some ruins and amphitheatres, we made our way to the Roman Forum. It’s an agora build in 19BC. There was an ancient weather station there too. This place is interesting but it was so hot, we couldn’t really cope. Claire was really bloated from eating delicious dough balls, so she had to unbutton her dress a little and hide it with my bag. She was so embarrassed but I found it hilarious. She thinks it’s worth it though, she fell in love with those balls. We walked back to our AirBnB and relaxed for the remainder of the day.
Day 130 - Ancient Agora of Athens
Today was a long day. We tried to tick off as many different things on our list as possible as it was coming to the end of our trip and our tickets were expiring. We started off the day by exploring the MASSIVE Agora of Athens. This place is so gigantic. We went here last time but had to cut our visit short due to getting an interview done for a magazine. We were happy to explore it this time. We walked around the whole of the Agora and was exhausted at the end! Then we finished exploring Hadrian’s library and visited Plaka Stairs, the oldest street in Athens. We saw lots of historical artefacts and architecture this day, but it was just a ‘Get everything done’ day and the crowds started to really frustrate me. It’s less fun in crowds. Overall it was a good day. I enjoyed the band that played as we had lunch.
