Banana Shot

Показать описание
The quality of the video isn't great but, this is a great example of a BANANA SHOT on a penalty corner. This first shot on this penalty corner is made using the hitting action and, therefore, must be on a path to cross the goal-line at a height of not more than 18 inches/460mm. As a result of the hit, the ball rises much higher than 18 inches. Oh no!!! Should the umpire blow the whistle?!? No. Why not? The umpire should not whistle because the shot was never on a path to ACTUALLY cross the goal-line too high. The umpire has to assess the trajectory of the ball AND its velocity. (It is so easy to be an umpire.) A moral of the story is... always read the rule, understand the rule, and play the game and umpire it according to the rules (not to the lowest common denominator of what most people think the rule is). The other moral is to understand why umpiring is a challenging endeavor.
