One of my favourite McDavid crossunder/ crossover videos to analyze! So many things that can be taken from this few second clip.

Including
🔑 Wide crosses
- Internal hip rotation (toes in): helps the foot travel under the body
- Head tracking
- Ankle articulation (y-angle) key for all types of crosses, but especially important when you're feet are wider
- Allows you to get on the outside edge of your skate

🔑 Bowing
- Result of hip dropping and the upper body/shoulders remaining close to level (don't need to be exactly level)
- More pronounced bow look when the upper body counter rotates the lower body. Ie. your chest is facing the opposite direction of your arc.
- That's why you see more "bowing" on backhand side crossunders.
- Situationally, rare to have your upper body in opposition to your skating direction when going to your forehand side.

🔑 Shin angle
- Knee WAY in front of the toe

🔑 Land under Center of mass (on inside and outside edge)
- Put's in a position to exit immediately, if you land to far in front you'll have to wait for your foot to travel under your body
- Keeps forward momentum
- Allows you to just bounce right off the striding foot
- Helps with shin angle

🔑 Backward slice + forward fall
- Falling forward provides forward momentum and allows you to slice the ice on the exit, reducing/eliminating the need to push or toe flick

🔑 And more
- Many other components to the crossunder that I'll save for another day……

Lastly, none of these are unique to McDavid, he just like with most mechanics does it the best 😃

Good analysis, short and sweet!
Is there a full/detailed version of this coming up?
Specifically on the “wide crossovers” - what is it referring to? How much ground CMD covers laterally with each step? His running crossovers look short and choppy hence the question.
