The Tempest
By Robert W. Smith
Item: 00-BD9561
Series: Belwin Beginning Band
Format: Conductor Score & Parts
Level: 1
The dictionary tells us that a tempest is "a violent windstorm, frequently accompanied by rain, snow or hail." In the hands of Robert W. Smith, the scoring supplies all of the fury and rage within the instruments of your band. This work takes us "by the bootstraps" right into the raw power of Mother Nature.

Rip clarinets. I am a clarinet and I had to play it 2 years ago in 7th grade and we basically had the same note every time.

Robert w smith died on 9/21/23 and he was one greatest composer and wrote many great songs like this one.

When we played this, our band director looked at the clarinets and said "I'm sorry", then looked at me and my fellow horn player and said "Your welcome"

Robert W. Smith wrote one piece and practically made the same piece over and over again like the second storm and into the storm. Even still the songs are still unique. I love this composer

As low brass, I gotta learn how to not get distracted while counting 4 18 times

We are playing this in 6th grade and I play the flute and at measure 18 through 36 is a nightmare you got no rest and it’s constant but it’s fun and easy notes just these 2 different parts going back and forth and if you breath you might get lost at where you are. I also realize the clarinets have a painful time as well

Edit wow a year later and I still keep getting likes thanks for 114 likes and wow I did not think anyone would find this comment.

Edit again I’m in 8th grade and I quit band 😭😭 and I wasn’t even good anyway

edit again i’m in 9th grade now and i’m still getting emails abt this

Honestly, the clarinet part was really good!

It perfectly described my emotions playing this heaven-forsaken piece of music.

Crazy reading these comments. I played this song on trombone when I was in 6th grade on 2006. Never knew it was widely played in so many schools, even to this day.

I played this in elementary school band and our director was like, "Clarinets, I'm sorry but you only have A's"
