Justin Trudeau and Catherine McKenna make me embarrassed 😳 to be Canadian

Nice of CBC to provide us with more ammo to get rid of Trudeau. Even watching snippets of these parliamentary sessions it is obvious Liberals are not being truthful nor can they answer an honest question. Misdirect, misdirect, misdirect, then slam the Conservatives. It is all getting to be a tiresome dog and pony show starring Trudeau and Morneau, Minister of Fiscal Irresponsibility.

I purchased this home in 2004. It is a large home and I was self-employed and operated a B&B from it. Some years back I retired. I began a long, labourious and expensive huge renovation for the next many years. The plan was to increase the value of this home, so that when I sold it the equity in the home could allow me to buy smaller and to have money to last for the rest of my life. I was self-employed, so I have no pension other than the government pension. But I could manage nicely if I had some cash in the bank to use throughout the retirement years. So, that was my life plan for my life savings.

Years back I had my daughter staying in the house, as she is an interior designer by profession and she began the process of getting this home to a beautiful quality to assist in getting a fair sale price. One day Angus Footman (then of Tweed Farms, under the Canopy Growth umbrella) knocked on the door. He was very friendly. Informed then that the two greenhouses immediately down the street had been purchased by Canopy Growth, and they would eventually increase their use of the space from approximately 35, 000 sq. ft. to the 100, 000 sq. ft. that we available to them in the current green housing (I think these were the numbers). But, the biggest thing he said was “You won’t even know we are here”. That sadly turned out to be a massive lie.

Two veggie growers, and now a winery, have been lost and replaced by a massive marijuana grow op.

And, for some time, I hadn’t noticed any smell…at least not too often. Sometimes when I might smell skunk, I assumed it was SKUNK.

It was one summer’s day and I had some friends around and we were outside. I smelt something that wasn’t quite a skunk smell….more like skunk with a chemically other smell. These friends said they had noticed it too, and had talked to each other about it, saying that they believed it to be from the pot plant….and they didn’t know how to tell me this….as they knew I was fixing up the house to sell it, and this was very bad news. They told me their thoughts, and I was very concerned, of course.

This smell continued, some days. When it occurred on a hot/humid day it was particularly putrid. I recall one particularly bad day (very hot humid day) I opened my outside door and it was like a brick wall of stench, and I gagged. And I cried. What in the world was happening?

I emailed Angus Footman (he had left a business card on his house visit with my daughter). He got back in touch with me. He came to my home with a basket of wine and chocolates, and we had a pleasant conversation. He also gave me and my sister-in-law a tour of the plant. It was not a stinky day however. I did smell the same smell in the plant while standing outside the door to the cutting room.

Angus told me the smell I’m smelling is from a “personal grower” in the area, and not from Tweed Farms. He said they’d taken their monitor to a private home and had a reading, and that had to be what I was (he has told other neighbours this same thing).

It was around here when I first heard, in the newspaper, that they were building up to 1Million sq. ft. I was devastated. I saw a newspaper article with Snoop Dog bragging about how good their product was. Now this was WELL before recreational pot was legal, and they were supposed to just be medical. And there were people on YouTube smoking the stuff and saying how good it was. This was not a medical use situation.

I approached him with the possibility of purchasing my lovely home. 7000 sq. ft. when the basement is re- refinished. 11 bedrooms. The renovated side…4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, in approx.. 3500 sq. ft. very private from the rest of the home, and perfect for visiting executives. Other side of the house, 7 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, clean/nice (just not 5 star like the other side) would be perfect for staff. Walk to work. On the renovated side there were perfect spaces for off-site (just “just” off site) meetings, cocktail parties (in the summer on the deck around the newly done stone pool). He said that the Real Estate Department was really busy for at least a few weeks on a massive deal, but that he’d approach them on this shortly.

I found out from the next guy who I contacted (after Angus was no longer at Tweed)…an Irish fellow. He got back to me that Angus had not ever mentioned this potential house purchase to the Real Estate Department. Now the texture of my stressful relationship with Tweed was taking a different tone.

So, the first time the Irish fellow comes by (after numerous complaints from me about smell). He loved my home. Said “it is by far the nicest home I’ve been since I’ve been in Canada”. He indicated that he’d mention it to his real estate division, but also pondered whether he and his wife might wish to buy it personally. Heard no more from him after this, except to hear they were not interested in buying the home.

Time passes on, and the smells continue….both in intensity and in frequency. Generally speaking the worst days were in the summer days. Can’t open the windows on nice days. The humidity seems to enhance the depth of the stench. So many days I was so upset. Not wanting to draw attention to my home as I knew I was preparing it to sell (and it was taking forever). I did not want to have my neighbourhood known for this stench.

So last fall I am finally ready for pictures to be taken and the listing to go online. An agent’s open house is scheduled for November. I had written to Tweed Farms and told them that my biggest nightmare was that on the agent’s open house the neighbourhood would stink. I was out of the country at the time of the open house. My realtor emailed me and told me that the neighbourhood stunk on the day of the open house. It didn’t go unnoticed by the agents. One agent even stated that she would not bring anybody to Niagara-on-the-Lake at all, and she would tell anybody who would listen to her. In spite of that a few showings occurred shortly after that open house. At 2 showings it stunk. So now the agents know, and are not sending people.

My next point person at Tweed Farms (Canopy Growth) was Sean Webster, who has been unable to get a commitment for the purchase of my home. He has been amicable with me, and let’s me get mad. But I get continued promises of new processes to stop the stench. These promises have been made since day one, with zero effect. I cannot count on that sadly.

And now, as more and more “staggered” plants come to flower, I get the stench year round when they flower. And sometimes the smell is as strong as the prior summer events. Even this Easter, I had family arrive to the stink, and it was inside. Nothing like the aroma of skunk to compliment your Easter meal.

So here is where I sit right now. They won’t buy my house. They have just purchased the winery next door. They won’t buy my home, but they continue to expand rapidly both in Canada and internationally as they acquire more existing grow ops. More sq. ft. of growth, more flowering, more stink, more traffic. I am falling apart here. I am beyond furious. Bruce Linton announced the billions they predicted in sales in the next 12 months. This comes at MY expense, and that is not just unfair, it should be illegal.

I have no idea how I can carry on under these circumstances. I’m spending more and more days in deep depression.
