The CB400F is one of my favorite motorcycles of all time. It's small enough that a beginner is not intimidated by it, but with its 6-speed transmission. A high revving 4-cylinder engine and exceptionally good handling an expert can have a blast as well. Of corse it has Hondas reliability and great looks. I have restored these bike to new, I have done slight mods to them to waken them up a bit, but I had never done a complete cafe racer restoration. 400F cafes that I have seen in the past looked a little off to me because it is a very small motorcycle and most universal cafe parts look too big on the bike. I wanted to build a proportionally correct custom conversion for this bike. I changed the frame around in the back and built an aluminum seat for the back. I scaled the runs down to 17" but 1" wider. I decided to go with a front drum brake from a CL450 because I like their mechanical simplicity and I hate brake fluid. The engine is bored to a 470 and it has a yoshimura race cam with some additional head work. Believe it or not the bike is 100lbs lighter than stock. Weighed in at 298 from a stock 407. The bike still needs the tank to be pine striped and an upholstered pan to finish her off.
