Building the Walls: Farm Wall Vlog #1

At the beginning of the 2017 Laramie Farm Wall Project, we are making room for new Towers and hardening our plants to the outdoor environment.

This week, we hardened our plants, built our Farm Walls out, and planted them. Our staging area is two Farm Walls with a tarp to shade the plants from the sun as they get used to the change in temperature, airflow, and light. We built a new bracket for the gutters with a wooden facade to make them sturdy enough for the Wyoming weather and visually appealing.

We also built out a trellis system for our cherry tomatoes. We’re hoping these tomatoes will grow into a cascade of cherry tomatoes and be a verdant patch of green by the end of the summer.

What we planted: Cherry tomatoes, parsley, spearmint, apple mint, Salanova lettuce, rainbow chard, nasturtiums, Francesca broccoli, and basil.

Maintenance: In the first few days we need to make sure that the wicking strips are working properly and troubleshoot any random problems.

What’s next: When plants are harvestable, we’ll bring the produce to local restaurants, the soup kitchen, and others.

Tomatoes and lettuce in the same system with lettuce/greens? Don't tomatoes need much high level of phosphor in the water?
