Brenda Walsh leaving Beverly Hills 90210 was a big turning point for the show. She was one of its emotional anchors, bringing conflicts and relatable drama, especially with her love triangle involving Dylan and Kelly. The show tried to shake things up, but many fans missed the authenticity and balance Brenda brought to the stories.
When Valerie Malone showed up, she became the "villain" stirring up drama within the group—a move straight out of the Melrose Place playbook. On top of that, the characters became more individualistic, leaving behind the warm, youthful vibe of the early seasons.
For a lot of longtime fans like me, Beverly Hills 90210 lost its charm when it leaned into a more dramatic, soap-opera-like style, much like Melrose Place.

Love this season as well. It definitely wasn’t the same without Shannen’d character but the storylines were a bit more mature.

Valerie was an alright addition, but she was no Brenda. It took me a long time to see her as anyone except Kelly Kapowski.

Kelly the BIG love of every mans life on the show...superficial, jealous, petty, cheating Kelly. The writers made these guys so superficial falling for supposed looks over substance. Appalling.

Glad David and Donna broke up in season 4 because he seemed happier with Clare in season 5.

Kelly and Brandon were so insanely boring. By the time they got to Emma, I was rooting for him to cheat. Their relationship was so completely saccharine. Complete yawnfest.

Brandon "s reaction to steve wanting kelly back lol as they are a full blown couple. Why r they so scared to tell david & donna about their relationship? Meanwhile when dylan & kelly got together they put that on blast leaving brenda in the dust. Including sadly brandon. Kelly was def loose at one point i said omg she has slept w/ steve brandon & dylan! Brandon only turned kelly down at the spring dance b/c Steve was still obsessed w/ kelly. David even wanted her & it was a little odd they referred to eachother as brother & sister when their parents were married for 3 sec b/c mel was a gross womanizer & had the big bucks to back it up being an oral surgeon. Yes David & kelly shared a half sibling but they were not brother & sister & once jackie divorced mel they were not step siblings anymore.

Hey, could you please upload the last scene of Brenda and her mom sitting together on the crate? Also, it feels like this first episode of Season 5 really positioned Kelly as the main lead instead of Brenda - she dominated the show right up until the final episode. Of course, Valerie was an amazing addition too!
