LYRICS

I don’t know what happens
but it must be pretty bad
When I can’t find your eyes, I walk home unsurprised
I’m smaller - and I’m mad

i’ll mourn over a weekend
you’ll lose me then
You panic a little
then you’ll want me again

God knows I love you
I’ll let these things be
But I don’t know if I like you
When you do these things to me

now when you touch me
I curl up my spikes
But you stroke them down and I’ll come around as you ask me what I like

And you’ll kiss me like I’m everything
Something in me comes undone
And I’ll wake up in the morning
Knowing once again you’ve gone

God knows I love you
I’ll let these things be
But I don’t know if I like you
When you do these things to me X2

To be honest I don’t blame you
cause when you put me on the side
I clench my fists like a baby
Yeah I scream like a child
Yeah I’ll teach you a lesson
Mark my stupid words
Maybe I’ll break the cycle
Maybe I’ll break you first

god knows you love me
These things must be true
But I don’t know if you like me
When I do these things to you

“maybe i’ll break the cycle, maybe i’ll break you first” ow oh my god- the amount of weight two lines can hold, incredible lyricism

dodie you're of those artists that's nailed the idea of "the more specific the story is, the more universal it becomes" because your music (both the instrumentals and lyrics) is very specific to you but it is universal and versatile in meaning and emotion? like both your january song and february song is somehow exactly how i've felt for the past month and hearing your verbalize it in your lyrics and the instrumentals it blows my mind every time!

I can definitely see Lizzy in this song - especially the beginning when you’re singing your higher notes a bit stronger. Cool to see how you two rub off on each other

Surprising haunting melody/harmonies, gorgeous and relatable lyrics. "Now when you touch me, I curl up my spikes. But you stroke them down and I'll come around as you ask me what I like..." This song gonna become a new favorite of mine for sure

Somehow you always have the best timing when it comes to these songs. Or perhaps it's that these feelings are more universal than we think. There's always people hurting and yet we always feel we're the only one going through this. "God knows I love you, I’ll let these things be. But I don’t know if I like you when you do these things to me". God that line hurts so much. Thank you for making me feel less alone in the hurt. <3

Holy shit this song is next level, dodie. Some of my favourite lyrics you’ve ever written. I can see myself getting obsessed with this one. 💕

I don’t take the line “and I’ll wake up in the morning, knowing once again you’ve gone” literally. It feels more like that the person you know from those nights where they turn into that sweet, lovely person is gone again and you have to go through the bad parts again. Just me? Okay :)

oh my God??? i got goosebumps the minute 1:03 just woah. that change caught me so off guard but in a good way. holy shit. i sometimes find this, like... tension? in some part of your songs (like this one) and IT’S SO GOOD you build it up so perfectly and i love it you’re amazing
