I bought this jacket two years ago. Took it to get a fixed up. Lotsa rips down coming out of seams. Worked hard but well loved. Got so much done in this jacket . unfortunately they said they couldn’t fix it. Hopefully Patagonia will bless us with another version!

Used it for guiding a snowshoeing expedition in -40C before windchill. Loved it! Thanks Patagonia

it's $900, but it's also made for summiting peaks above 20, 000 feet so something tells me most of you in the comments are not expert mountaineers or else you wouldn't be complaining.

A lot of negative comments regarding the price of this jacket. The comparable jackets from The North Face (HIMALAYAN PARKA), feathered friends (Rock and Ice Parka) are similar in price, weigh twice as much, and are effective to the same temperature.

The value in this parka is it is light weight and nimble enough that you can actually preform tasks. It weighs half what other comparable parkas weigh and you can not even move you arms above your head in the other parkas.

Also don't under estimate the value of the little things like the extended back end. Anyone who has bent over in freezing windy conditions and felt the icy air creeping up their lower back knows how important this feature is.

This parka is made to preform in Arctic conditions while allowing you the ability to move freely and is worth the cost.

Brought the black colour last week in a sale in the Uk.way to warm to wear it now so it’s hanging up ready for the cold.light and comfortable

Likely the most advanced expedition parka anywhere. Well worth the money.
But I have a budget and decided on the 50% off sale price Eddie Bauer Peak XV parka. So, yeah, I had to fill the thinly insulated internal zipper baffle with DWR treated down and will likely sew on a 2nd down baffle. Even so it's a great buy for a guy who doesn't do winter climbing.

Somebody had this coat on in line ahead of me at Whole Foods the other day in midtown New York City and I was like yeah dude it is cold out but this jacket is pure overkill. Maybe Everest Base camp but not urban preppy wear! It also is bulky, shapeless and leaves the wearer looking and moving like a sandworm in Dune!

How is it for high winds? I'm thinking of riding a motorcycle during winter with near freezing temps not including windchill. Cheaper to get heated riding gear than this, but they don't help if the batteries die or the MC breaks down.

I have this jacket. Incredibly warm. Think I’ve warn it a handful of times. Bit overkill for our uk winters. Was great in Finland however.

does anyone know if the orange "jacket" underneath the grade 7 is a separate patagonia product or it that part of the grade 7 parka ?

Hello Steve, what are the other layers you are waring below the Grade VII? I´m going to Denali next May 2017 and I´m wondering what kind of layers would perform best combination of warmth/lightweight/climbing?

I don't care much for this Parka, but I certainly like the Hybrid Sleeping Bag system it pairs up with.

Close to a grand with taxes. A client might wear this, but none of the full time climbers or guides I know would drop that kinda dough on a jacket. Maybe used or on pro deal.

I just bought a Fitz Roy before this jacket was released. I kind of wish I had this thing! I hit up Rainier in winter and want to push to the summit this coming winter season. I am going to need to save up big at $900 :)

If anyone wants to help me with a pro-deal here let me know! haha

It Would have been nice to just see the parka without the other pieces.

No way that will keep an average person warm all by itself in Arctic conditions. You could stuff lots of fleece layers under it or size up and wear it over another hi loft down jacket, of course. So it could double as an oversized conventional winter parka and you'd get more overall use out of it. But it's still not worth $900. I bought one on eBay for about $350. Good at that price.

If you want a serious polar parka, spend the big bucks on a Feathered Friends Rock & Ice or the PHD Omega (which you can customize). Both have twice the down fill weight of the Grade vii and they look scarier too.

I really have to wonder what makes this parka worth $900.00.

$900 for something made overseas.... yeah right that's Canada Goose Territory and even that's overpriced.
