The holidays are when scammers kick things into high gear. Be vigilant and protect yourself from scams. Here are some tips that can help you avoid online shopping scams. Cyber security for the masses!
Red Flag #1: If its too good to be true… it most likely is!
Tip #1: Don't click on any links from unsolicited email/texts
Red Flag #2: Missing packages or new package notifications that you didn't order? Delete them!
Tip #2: Browse directly to main page of the vendor
Red Flag #3: Avoid vendor or retailers who demand the use of cash, cash apps, or gift cards - pretty much avoid anything involving gift cards for a transaction of goods
Tip #3: Look for the HTTPS and lock icon on websites
Red Flag #4: Advertisements for products that are hard to find…. Be sceptical
Tip #4: Keep you devices, systems, and application patched and up to date!
Red Flag #5: Beware of pressure tactics to buy now (urgency). Reputable online vendors don’t push you (even when stocks are low)
Tip #5: Protect your personal information - Protect you identity - Don't overshare
