That sportsmanship was incredible by vladisev

props to vladisev. He could have had an easy win, but he chose to wait and played a fair game and lost fairly. Insane sportsmanship
edit: what is happening, i came back after 2 months and a war is happening in the reply section

I don't think it was a show of confidence when Magnus took a few seconds to adjust his pieces. It was code for "I see what you are doing with the clock, brother, and from here on we can continue with the time we have. You have my gratitude for creating an even playing field."
In other words, he said thanks.

Vladisev had a win, but he decided to be a good sportsman to make the game fair for Carlsen what a good guy

"With 1 second remaining, Vladisev was about to find out that the real match had just begun"

Clearly it was on purpose and amazing sportmanship from Vladisev. Great guy!

2:25 was not sign of confidence, he just told Vladisev "do not delay anymore, I am ok I can play thank you" . Great sportsmanship from both !!

What's incredible is, after waiting for his opponent like a gentleman, the game turned out to be an incredibly engaging / close match anyway!!! Masters of their craft, these men are!!

Oh he absolutely was wasting time on purpose. He's a strong grandmaster, he already knows that opening theory. This is like the opening book moves of a chess program, they don't even think on those moves, they know them and play them automatically that early, even for human players. This is his objection to the arbiter starting the match when Magnus wasn't there. He wasted two minutes on his clock to make it a more standard match with no out-of-game factors giving one player a handicap. How many times in your life do you get to face Carlsen, the world champion, in a rated tournament game? Handicapping him literally wastes one of those few precious times you can actually fairly match wits with him when something is actually on the line for him.

To not waste time on the clock is to deny yourself a golden opportunity to test your mettle against the absolute best.

Excellent job of conveying the action on the board to people who don't have the chess skills to keep up. Excellent job of keeping the excitement up and building to a climax. Excellent editing to allow time to comment without disrupting the flow. Truly top notch!
Honestly one of the best chess videos I have seen. Partly a very exciting match, but mostly the presentation.

I don’t really know that much about chess but the fact that the time increased when they made a really fast turn drove me insane…

When Magnus was a teenager he played Garry Kasparov, who also showed up late. It seemed like a flex to me when Kasparov did it. I’m happy to entertain the idea (without evidence) that this was a flex by Magnus well as also a nod of respect back to Kasparov. But yes huge respect to Vladisev for responding in the best way he could of. Always better to lose a fair game then to lose a game you had a huge advantage.

Was it just me, or was that the longest 4 seconds in history?

This was cool right up until the end when youtube puts shit over the top of the video so that I can't see what's happening anymore.
