Jaimie and Jay make a 'How to Train Your Dragon' themed DIY Montessori Floor Bed. We believe that no child should have to grow up without a proper viking bed. 🔥🔥🔥

Plans for this project will be available soon!

The Montessori Bed, or "Floor Bed", is an integral part of the "Montessori Bedroom". As kids grow up and get too big for a crib, floor beds enable freedom of movement, independence, and mobility. They can move around, explore their environments, and wake up and move around without being trapped in the crib. They're awesome! Now that our kiddo is a toddler, it was time to make him a wicked awesome floor bed.

The DIY Montessori Bed we made is super extra and is Dragon and Viking themed, built to look like a Viking Longship. Specifically, we used the "How to Train Your Dragon" films as our inspiration. Jaimie worked on the film trilogy when she was at Dreamworks so we had artwork around the house that inspired us to make this awesome Dragon Montessori Bed.

This DIY project was incredibly fun to make and our son LOVES IT. If you're considering building a floor bed for your kiddos, we highly recommend it. Check out our DIY Floor Bed plans on our website if you want to follow along with this build and make your own Montessori Bed!

Love the bed. The power grinding to give the wood texture really made it look ancient.💙 Great work on this project.👍🐲

The details look amazing. Really a kids dream bed. 🤩. I am not a engineer but it is missing reinforcement. The beam and A shape will be too easy to swing back and forth, I could see in your eyes when you pushed against the was. 😂. Maybe a “small roof” with 2x8 will give structural strength plus a few other reinforcements along the areas were it connect to the bed. Like you mention, pretty sure it is not built to be used as a playground, but kids will always try. Keep the great work.

What is smart about this is as he gets older (and as long is the mattress is big enough) you'll be able to take that top part off and put a traditional header and footer with ease because of the dowels, instead of building a new more age appropriate bed. That's good future proofing

When I was a little girl, I would have loved to have a "rocketship" bed, but my dad didn't have the time to build one for me. So I just had an ordinary bed. Although I did put glow-in-the-dark stars on my ceiling.

You guys have inspired me to start my own thang (as we say in North Carolina)! I'm a newbie but have taken a lot of notes on techniques, video angles, etc. Great job!

Another great build. Even better, you made it accessible to DIYers that don't have all the fun toys (yet). Nice idea on the barrel nuts to make disassembly easier. I've thought about using something similar but never knew what to call them. That yellow protractor.. I have the same one and came in really handy in setting the angle on my circular saw.
This bed, as designed, wouldn't work for my kids. It would go from being a viking bed to monkeys hanging from the viking bed... I would have to over-engineer the whole thing to keep it from coming down on them.
I look forward to your next video.. keep it up!

Great job, you two! Love the look of that hand-hewn lumber. And I don't know if I heard it right, but at the very end it sounds like your little one says "house on fire". You must still have your halloween effect running upstairs. :)
