Love him or hate him, there's no denying that Mac is highly intelligent, and he rarely, if ever, ducks questions. He's also a great commentator.

I love his humility. It makes him powerful.

When Johnny Mac calls someone intense, you know the person is extreme.

As a young tennis nerd of the 80's I was a Borg man and actively rooted against John. But he had so much amazing game and you knew he brought out the best in his rivals and was part of so many legendary matches. The on court antics were one thing but as a human being he has a depth and honesty that you cannot deny and a wonderful ability to communicate. His announcing is top notch as well - best in the business. Tennis as a whole greatly benefits from him

It's refreshing to hear someone famous admit to his shortcomings. There are many false egos out there but at least McEnroe tells it like it is. Still my favourite tennis player of all time.

Love the Patty Smythe story about you don't play tennis...Exactly!

I still remember being 13 years at the US Open and seeing Mac walk through the grounds after he practiced. I told my dad I’m going to ask his for autograph. He said, I wouldn’t if I were you. I asked him why and he didn’t give me a reason. I asked Mac for an autograph and he said, “Kid, fuck off!” I never doubted my father again

"I want to play doubles with you at Wimbledon". "You don't play tennis" "Exactly" Too funny

SuperMac is also super-honest. He has a good awareness of what he's genuinely good at and where he just doesn't cut it. That's so refreshing.
(BTW, I'd like to have heard more about his friendship with Paul McCartney. I didn't even know they'd ever met!)

I love his style and the fact that he knows what he can do and he knows what he can't. Totally self aware.

He has a very nice British self depreciating sense of humor.

Johnny Mac...he was one of my boyhood heroes...loved his fiery personality and on a tennis court he was pure genius. He's a damn good comedic actor too...checkout the episode of Curb your Enthusiasm with Larry David...Mac slays it.

As a non-musician he confirmed something that I always wondered -- its gotta be much more difficult than people realize to play an instrument properly and sing properly at the same time... I'm sure it becomes easy over time, but it doesn't look easy

For me John was the best, he gave his all, he cared too much and it showed, I loved him, and he’s a great commentator.

I’ve never liked him much but I have to admire how honest he’s being about his music

It is only yesterday he was playing in the court. How time flies

I love when his wife told him, with a totally serious face: "Sure you can play in my band, and I will compete with you in mixed doubles at Wimbledon."
