5 Remote ID Module Options | But are they available?

As the September 16, 2023 effective date for the FAA Remote ID rule approaches, I wanted to see what remote ID broadcast module options are out there for drones that don't already have it built in or won't have it pushed through firmware. I was able to find 5 but how difficult will it be to get them delivered by the effective date and how long after will it be?

I focused on GPS drones in this video, but the larger impact will be on FPV drones. Good to know what options are out there just in case I want to keep flying my Anafi and other drones that won't have RID built in.

I ordered the DroneTag Beacon on July 31st for $199 and it has since gone up in price! I ordered mine from Madison Area Drone Service (free shipping & no tax). If ordering directly from DroneTag, they were charging the module cost + $3 shipping & $42.42 tax! I spoke with Madison Area Drone Service today and they are shipping out next week.

I think the apps are more for DJI products have not seen any video on any other drone models

Doesn't the Parrot Anafi have this built in?

Thanks DI for that RID presentation and informational! Although I think it still sucks that we are required to spend all that money for the device, I do think the FAA should freely provide the device to show that this is not another money-making scheme for the government to capitalize on! Those prices are ridiculous! I'm sure that some of that money will go to them if the device is bought here. I betcha!

Holystone remote ID broadcast module for 89 bucks....What are your thoughts?

The date doesn't matter. Compliance will be very low.

Thank you for your video.. my issue is not with the module nor FAA requirement, it is with the "usability" once the broadcast module is attached to your SUAV. Reminder: The Part 107 commercial use of drones was intended to have professional pilots adhere to rules the same/similar to light aircraft operations.. just look at the examination, it's chock full of basic avionics.. weather.. pilot responsibility. At the time, it did not support adding components to your drones. Specifically stating any add-on may alter, interfere or increase personal liability when operating in any airspace. I believe and support its intention to separate drones by "category" since authorized models will be used for delivering products and will have to maintain and support a much higher standard of safety. Effectively, drones lacking this ability to support the external module are "non-compliant capable". As a commercial operator, I am forced to buy upwards thus increasing costs for business purposes. I see a hurdle having been placed that basically "grounds" drones of old, IMO.

Guess I’ll have to look for one for my bebop 2 or try to sell it

I worry about this too. I have a lot of legacy drones that I've collected over the years since I started this back in 2015. I too have the Parrot Anafi and it's sad that we have to put a RID module on such a light bird. I worry about the integrity of added weight with the module. It will probably make it unsafe to fly with it! Let alone, I can't find any module avaliable so in the swoop of the moment I'm going to be an outlaw because of the outreach of this goverment. At the moment, I can't find anything in the market to buy. P.S. I bought the Air 3, my first drone with RID and it's still not on the FAA website of aircraft Declaration of Compliance for RID. This whole thing is like mom's spaghetti... it's a big sloppy mess!

Spectrum has an ID module for $69.99, but I'm not getting it.I plan to fly noncompliant.I fly R/C fixed wing model planes.None of them fly longer than 5 minutes.

I remember when I started off with drones. Always tripping out that the FAA were going to come after me for something. But yeah as long as you mind your business there is no need for this.
If you fly professionally sure that might be a good investment. But for the average FPV parking lot flier - these things can go in the trash.

I'm just learning about this RID crap, and my question is, will my Mavic 2Pro still be able to fly without this RID module after Sept 16th? DJI is saying they will have a firmware update in Dec. So why spend $$ if I don't need to but still want to fly for fun before the Dec. firmware update.

I am not putting out several hundred dollars to comply on my 7 year old DJI Phantom 3. Right now I can't fly it as the lower shell succumbed to stress cracks at the motors. Trying to find a replacement shell turns out to be a bigger task than I thought it would be. No one seems to carry it anymore. So my thinking is by the time I locate a new shell, probably a used one, the demand for RID modules will have fallen off and the prices will crash. Then I will consider adding RID to this drone. My smaller drone is not worth a few hundred bucks either to be in compliance. Again, I will wait for prices to come down by a significant amount.

Looks like they don’t want people flying anymore.

All my over 250 gram drones are for decoration purposes only. I only fly my 10 inch drone indoors.

These RID manufacturers are price gouging the prices are ludicrous.
